I just got the accidental "I love you"

J and I were talking on the phone, which is pretty rare. His daughter beeped through with a text, and he asked if he could call me back, that he was going to give her a quick call. I said no problem, that we'd be seeing each other tomorrow anyway, so if not, no big deal. And then he says, "OK, then, I'll talk to you later...I love you..."

I could FEEL his face get red from all the way over here! lol He started stuttering and stammering, and I just howled. He was like, "Uh, um, don't take that all weird or anything!" and I just cracked up. I said, "No worries, you're fine! You're so cute!"

I swear, that phrase is SO easy to say when you're getting off the phone with someone! ACK!!!

Yes, it is easy sometimes for it to slip out, especially when the only other people I talk to on the phone I DO say I love you (family).

  • That actually happened to me with a guy I was dating prior to L.  He was very recently divorced, so it made me wonder if he was not over his XW.  But I can see how it could slip out, especially if someone was overly tired or intoxicated.

This exactly!! Up until the guy I'm seeing right now, I never talk to anyone on the phone other than family. God help me so that I don't do this! haha

  • I need to be careful about this myself. XH has slipped up when talking to me on the phone and said it out of habit. Akward moment. I tell family and friends I love them all of the time so I worry about when I start dating again....
  • I've said it to my boss on the phone before.  She's a Jewish mother and called me sweetheart so I was like "ok, talk to you later, love you bye!"  Thankfully she understood.

  • i think you handled it well by laughing it off and not being all OMGGG about it.

LMAO. I work at a call center, and one of my coworkers accidentally ended a phone call with a customer with "Ok, I love you, bye!" OMG the funny!

It's just me and my Marlon now... and I LOVE it that way!
  • They only people I talk to on a regular basis on the phone is my mom and DH. I always end the conversations with I love you!

So the other day I was talking to my REA on the phone and She said bye hun, ill call you when I hear anything. I don't know if it was because she called me hun or what but my reply was. Ok sounds good. Have a great night, I love you! I believe she hung up before I said the last part. (She had a call coming in on the other line, so she was in a little bit of a hurry to get off the phone) Normally it would make me upset if the person I was talking to hung up before I was done talking, but I'm glad she did. (She hasn't mentioned this to me since so I hope she didn't hear me!)
