Seche Vite - has no one read the warning?
After all the posts raving about it, I finally went and got it yesterday. I was just reading the back of the box and there was a warning that there is something in this product that is recognized in the state of California as causing birth defects or other reproductive harm! Given that I'm almost 37 weeks pregnant, I didn't open the bottle and plan on returning it.
Has no one else seen it? If you have, is it not a big deal?

I think unless you physically ingest gallons and gallons of it, you're probably fine.
Disclaimer: I work in toxicology so I think I'm normally more paranoid about these things than other people... but its because I know so many horror stories.
OP, I agree with you that you should wait until AFTER the baby. You might even want to talk with your doctor about if too if you're planning on breast feeding. With these things, I think it's always better to be safe than sorry. Does it say what the ingredients are that might be harmful? Is it the normal nail polish stuff (formaldehyde and toluene) or is it something different in this type? I know some pregnant women avoid painting their nails at all because of the formaldehyde and toluene, although most people don't have issues with it... it's just one of those things.
For me, if the ingredients were similar to other nail polishes, I wouldn't worry about it. I would only be concerned if there was something else in there. Just my two cents
Thanks for the advice. I rarely do my nails so no big deal in waiting to use this later.
Good thing I don't live in California, so those risks don't apply to me!
This exactly what I was going to say!! LOL!!!

This exactly. I don't worry about that label too much since, like PPs mentioned, it's on half of everything... but that said, the first time I opened a bottle of Seche Vite, I was like "Whoa!" That stuff is crazy strong smelling. For that reason alone, I try not to use it very often. And I wouldn't use it while I was PG.

Me with my littlest.
Yep. It's also on shopping mall entry doors, because one of the stores inside might sell leaded crystal glasses. It's on parking garage walls because of car exhaust. It's on stuff like GPS systems, luggage locks, other cosmetics, coffee, etc. Basically anything and everything under the sun in CA seems to fall within the purview of Prop 65 -- you're not even safe in your own home.
Not to argue with any toxicologist's on here, but CA's Prop 65 law is so overbroad that it has become meaningless.

I was one of these pregnant people that didn't even paint their toenails with regular polish. My DH found an article in one of his medical journals that stated the ingredients in all polish have been linked to sperm damage in males.
I wanted to get a pedicure for labor, and he was like "think of the baby's balls please".
We have two boys and a didn't know if we were having a boy or girl with the third. She was a girl, and I said to him, I could have painted my nails! But he got me cute socks to wear so no one saw my toes anyway:)
He wasn't worried about all the random california warnings on other products, just nail polish.
It's toulene. The MSDS for Seche is not alarming to me. The Permissable Exposure Limit (according to OSHA) is 200ppm and the Seche concentration is 150ppm. You'd need to sit in a closed room with an container for a long time to get that concentration--or work in a nail salon using it all day. In a ventilated room, you're fine. The main hazards are inhalation and skin absorption--so don't soak in it either.
Also, there is a Prop 65 label on Moleskine notebooks and Sharpie markers.
