Hey ladies, I need your opinion on something.
We're renters and will be living in our current place for another month before we move.
We're renting from a single owner who put the apartment up for rent, at the local real estate, to find the next tenant.
Now, we don't mind being collaborative so for the past week or so we have arranged for the realtors to come with the potential tenants at times when it's not an inconvenience for us. (they don't have the keys, nor do I want them to have them).
The problem is that we're receiving five-six texts and calls a day from these people that want to show the place every other day and during the week end. One of them even asked if he could organize an open house on Sunday to bring a bunch of people all together in one visit.
I don't think this is ok! We're living here, we pay the rent and don't see why we should let our experience of our own place be so diminished just because the lease is about to be up.
Am I right? Like I said, I don't have a problem if a couple sees the place once or twice a week but I don't feel comfortable letting people from the street, basically, in the privacy of my home.
- sorry for the wall of text *_* -

Re: Need advice Re: showing current apartment
I would just tell them to set 2 times a week when you will be there - set showings
and that's it
that's what we did when we were renting out our flat (and still living there)
we had wednesday evenings from 7:30-7:45
and saturdays for a 15 to 30 minute period
and that was it
that was plenty to get people and and get it rented
I think this is what we should do, thanks! Did you allow more than one person/couple in one visit?
None of this is mentioned on the lease.
but at least it was only for 15 minutes!!
granted, that's just how it works here in Sydney
when we left London we had to be flexible about when agents brought people by to see our flat, but I think in the end we did put our foot down about it only being a few times a week at times when we were home
When we wrote up my lease, we agreed to something like 4-5pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 1-2pm every other Sunday.
I don't anticipate them using all of that time, but I know up front what times to plan around.
ETA - It's in one-hour blocks because if it's a private landlord, it's usually just open viewings so the landlord can vet a bunch of people before offering to lease to any of them who put their name down as interested.
Perhaps we were too lax, but we were fine with the agent having the key and letting people in for viewings during the weekdays when we were at work. We just requested that they let us know a day in advance.
We had also requested a significant reduction in rent (I think 50%) for the month(s) that they were showing the flat because our landlord was selling it while we were still under lease. This more than compensated for any inconvenience to us.
I think in most rental leases that I've signed, it's been stipulated that we allow new potential renters to view the flat once it is determined the lease will be ended.

Thanks for your replies, ladies!
Sushi, that's smart that you negotiated a reduction! We won't be asking for anything other than getting the constant calling/texting/visiting under control.
When I made the post yesterday I was a little upset 'cause the owner called saying the agency had complained about us not being able to be reached... when we have been nothing but collaborative; all last week agents came in every day with their clients, etc. So I had to call them and tell them that we don't appreciate that kind of behaviour.
