Jamaica

We are going to Jamaica in May and have booked at the Riu in Ocho Rios.  We are now trying to decide if we want to stay there or Grand Palladium in Montego Bay. Has anyone stayed at both or either and can give some reciews on either one?

Re: Jamaica

  • We just went to Ocho Rios a month ago... we stayed right door to the RIU there... at The Jewel Dunn's River.(smaller than RIU- but amazing staff, great food, etc)

It was great! blue water, palm trees, great weather.... we were only there for 4 days, so we just hung around the resort. but we had such a great time!! we could see the RIU from our room, and it looked really nice, too. We could see peopel getting oceanside massages and taking out the hoby cat sailboats :-)

I guess the one thing to know about ocho rios is that its about 1 1/2- 2 hours from the airport. it wasn't a bad ride though. the van driver gave us all kinds of little "tidbits" of info along the way so i just looked at it as a mini guided tour rather than "ugh! this hotel is sooo far from the airport!!"

I'm thinking no matter where you stay, you'll have a GREAT time!! Jamaica is beautiful!

  • I haven't stayed at either of those.  Have you looked at Tripadvisor yet?  I'm a visual person so I like to see people's pictures with their reviews.  We had a 4 day stay at the RIU in Montego 2 years ago and enjoyed it.  We are actually going to RIU Tropical Palace in Negril in May.  I looked into Grand Palladium for this trip, but decided to chose Negril for a nicer beach.  Good luck choosing!  I'm sure you can't go wrong with either one.
  • A few of my friends just got back from the Riu in Ocho and they loved it, they didn't have any complaints.

  • HATED the RIU...service, food, rooms were all terrible.  The property was always a mess and the pools were filthy.  I would book the Palladium in MoBay, friends stayed there and enjoyed it!
  • Thank you. As I keep looking at the pics and reviews, I am leaning more towards Palladium in MoBay.. That was my first option when I saw the pictures on their site but for some reason, I went with the RIU when we booked..
  • We just booked the Grand Palladium (Lady Hamilton) for our trip to Jamaica in May!  Our travel agent told us that the beach wasn't very big when we booked, but DH and I are ok with that.  Since booking, we've learned of a couple people we know who have stayed there and have all said good things about it.  Definitely looking forward to it!

Thanks for this information. We have not changed our reservations as of yet, we have until the 15th of April. When are you going to be there in May? We are also going in May
