Anyone stayed on Mnemba Island, Zanzibar?

Trying to determine whether it's worth the splurge and would love to hear from anyone who's had personal experience.  TIA!

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

Re: Anyone stayed on Mnemba Island, Zanzibar?

  • Hi.  Me again chiming in on the Tanzania stuff. :-)

We didn't stay on Mnemba Island, so I can't say from experience whether it's worth it, but I know when I was researching they were touting Mnemba as *SO* special b/c it was deserted, and you were in a private paradise.  When we stayed at Baraza in Bwejuu we were essentially the only people in the resort - we were 2 of about 12 in the entire resort.  The beach was deserted every day, and we seriously rarely saw anyone except at meal times.  So based on that, for me, I'm not sure I'd spend the extra for Mnemba.

The only thing is that I'm not sure if you can swim right off the beach in Mnemba, but if that is important to you, you can't really swim right off the beach in Bwejuu.
