Saw the doc about my pulse rate, semi not good news

It is looking that I have arrhythmia, (irregular heartbeat).   I wore a heart monitor yesterday and had it on for 24hours.  I have to go back Monday to get it back on for 48 hours.

What is very weird about my situation is that when I run/workout it goes into a semi normal rythmn.  So sometime this week I have to get a test where I am on the treadmill and have my heart monitored at the same time.

I do know that I will start some meds after the 48hour monitor, if they do not work then I might possible have to have a pace maker.  I am only 27 years old.

Has anyone had/have any experince with this?

Re: Saw the doc about my pulse rate, semi not good news

  • DH has SVT (supraventricular tachycardia) - basically he had an extra node in his heart that would cause his heart rate to go through the roof. (like 200+ bpm) .

He discovered it has a young kid, but growing up his family didn't have the money to have it fixed, and it really didn't affect his day-to-day life.

It started to become more prevalent in 2006/2007. The "Attacks" were more frequent, and they lasted longer. They would leave him feeling nauseous and exhausted.

really long story short - we finally caught the attack on the holter monitor and his cardiologist set him up with a surgeon who did an ablation.

That was 5 years ago (wow time flies). He doesn't take any meds & he hasn't had an attack since.

ETA: He was 25 at the time - they also told him that he could end up w/ a pacemaker.

  • I was recently diagnosed with an arrhythmia (premature atrial contractions with SVT). As long as I remain asymptomatic, they will not treat. I do, however, have to check in with my cardiologist yearly. I'm 32 and we didn't discover it until this year. I know it's super scary and nerve-wracking. Just make sure you ask your doc a lot of questions and that they explain any test results to you. FWIW, my condition should be treatable with just medications.

  • I have SVT's, and sometmes palpitation/missed beats. I can feel them which can be scary, and they were confirmed with a holter monitor study a couple years ago. Structurally my heart is fine, except for some very mild mitral valve prolapse, and I passed the stress tests with flying colors.

Same as the PP, my doctor said he'd treat if I were like 60 years old or a smoker, but he's not worried about it now. I go every 6 months for a check up. As long as I stay extremely well hydrated, consume enough salt, and avoid caffiene I'm symptom free.

Good luck with your testing. I hope it the findings are benign.

  • I have symptomatic PAC/PVCs...basically I am aware of my heart's normal irregular beats and I have attacks that can last a few minutes to a few hours.   I went through the same testing you did back in Jan and my heart is otherwise fine.  I have Meds to take if I have an attack but other than avoiding a ton of stress, caffeine and dehydration they are just going to watch me.  Good luck with everything!
  • I have PVCs that also go away while I'm working out.  I was diagnosed 1.5 years ago when I was 29.

The doctor and I decided against meds because of my asthma, so I try to control it by controlling my diet and stress level.

It was scary and nerve wracking while I was going through the testing.  But I think not knowing exactly what was going on was way worse.  I did the treadmill test and they did a couple of sonograms, once before the treadmill and again right after.

    Good luck with your testing.
