not a problem for us, but for others @ work I think it is

DH came home yesterday with a notice that they are changing their pay day. It is going from Wed to Friday.  I makes no difference to us, but I can bet there are people pitching a fit!

Would a change like this bother you?

Re: not a problem for us, but for others @ work I think it is

  • For us, no.

If we were living paycheck to paycheck, the first month might be slightly uncomfortable. Hopefully they were given enough notice to plan accordingly.

  • Technically we are paid on Friday, but it is almost always direct deposited on Thursday. I don't really see how this makes any difference. It's only two days change. Unless they are planning on skipping a week or something to compensate.

I've never cared how I am paid. I've been paid weekly, bi-weekly, by monthly. It never makes a difference to me.

However I do think they should give a lot of notice for a change that like. If you expected your paycheck on Wednesday and found out you wouldn't get it until Friday I could see how that might be frustrating.

  • they gave notice.......in May it will begin to be  on Fridays
  • Since they gave notice, I don't see the big deal. I can see how some people would get upset if they have payments scheduled for certain days, but that can easily be changed. I know someone who called their credit card company and asked for the date of their statement closing to change - and I can see how someone who has done that would be pissed. But... really what can you do?
  • My pay day is changing from Thursday to Friday in May. The early pay day was convienant but won't really hurt anything, especially with the notice.
  • I've worked at a couple of places where this has happened.  Usually they made up for it by a small paycheck to cover the additional days during the transition.  If there's plenty of warning, people really shouldn't have an issue with it.

This is what my company does. They own a hundreds of locations, and as they acquired them, they did not put them on a standard pay schedule. As a result, we are transitioning everyone to a biweekly schedule. Some currently are weekly, on opposite biweekly, and bimonthly.  We give thirty days notice that their pay dates are changing. Sometimes though, someone or some decision making group fails to notify people, and us in payroll, that things already changed. We all get stabby because people call to complain and we then think everyone else is crazy.

  • I don't really pay any attention to pay days since I get direct deposit and don't live pay check to pay check. I feel sorry for coworkers that do, and who have to run out to deposit their check during lunch on pay day so they don't bounce checks or get late notices for their rent. I've always wondered about coworkers who freak out (loudly in the office) about pay days when I know they make more than me or are a lot older than me. I had a coworker who worked in accounting who told me she doesn't have a savings account.
