So it seems you are a wealth of info.
Can you explain to me what the following products are used for. I am most interested in evening skin tone (lightening sun spots and discoloration) and reducing fine lines.
I have never had any skin issues or seen a dermataologist I'm just aging. Gracefully I hope.
Retin-a
Copper peptides
Antioxidants
Etc.
Thanks.

This is a fantastic article written by a dermatologist office near me. I like how it says products not covered in this article are just "dreams in a jar." Women spend soooo much money on the stuff that has no real scientific backing.
The Retin-A will lighten sun spots and reduce fine lines! The way it does this is by speeding up your skin's exfoliation process and also eventually helps you produce more collagen. I think I'm on month 3 now of using it, and it does take a while to see results. Right now, the differences I see are that it almost completely got rid of the blackheads on my nose and I do think my freckles are a little lighter. I'm using the .05% strength and am about to bump it up to the .1%. A lot of people have some pretty nasty side effects, so just be prepared for that. I had a lot of peeling and had to use a ton of moisturizer, and also had some really bad redness on my cheeks, but my skin eventually adjusted. It's a very effective product, but the effectiveness is most apparent after long term use.
I honestly don't understand the science behind the antioxidant use. The antioxidant product needs to be worn during the day, and helps protect the skin against free radicals. What I don't understand is what the heck is a free radical. The article I linked to sort of explains this, but I still don't "get it." However, antioxidants are proven to be good for the skin and to help combat visible effects of aging when worn during the day, and since there is a consensus among dermatologists that they help do this, I just accept it without understanding the science
Copper peptides help speed up the healing process for any wound, and there are studies that show it works to heal UV damage to the skin, which reduces wrinkles and fine lines. The two main companies who sell CP products are Neova and Skin Biology. I feel really overwhelmed by the number of different strengths offered in the Skin Biology products, and the Neova Night Therapy gets great reviews on MUA, so that's what I went with. I found the Neova Night Therapy on Amazon for around $60 when it's more like $85 elsewhere.
There are also limits to what simple topical products can do, and there are other stronger options that can help if the topical stuff isn't enough. One is TCA peels, which you can get at home or the dermatologist's office. The strong ones that have the most drastic results need to be done by a doctor. There are also laser treatments that are fantastic for evening skin tone and lightening sun spots, but of course they are expensive. Then of course there is Botox and fillers like Juvaderm for wrinkles, but I'm not going there yet!
I have read your posts before- would you mind detailing out your current skin are routine and products used?
Thanks for the link to the article!
No problem!
Morning - Wash with CeraVe. Apply Beyond Belief Vita C antioxidant serum from Sally's. Apply Clinique BB cream (has spf 30, antioxidants, and enough coverage that I skip foundation).
Prior to using the Clinique BB, I was not doing the vitamin c serum and was just applying Physician's Formula Healthy Wear tinted moisturizer after washing my face. The PF stuff is great. It moisturizes well, has antioxidants, spf 50, and good coverage for a TM, but the color didn't work for me. The only reason I use the vitamin C serum under the Clinique BB is because the BB goes on a bit dry and it gives me a bit of moisture and makes it go on easier. You can also just use a moisturizer with spf and antioxidants, but I like having a product that also works as my foundation. Some moisturizers with spf and antioxidants are Aveeno Positively Ageless, Mark For Goodness Face, and Neutrogena Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer. There are a lot out there, but be sure to use at least spf 30. It seems like most products have only spf 15 or 20.
Night - Wash with CeraVe. Wait 20 minutes. Apply a pea size amount of Retin-A to my face. Wait another 20 minutes. Apply Neova Night Therapy. Sometimes I'll skip the Neova and do the vitamin c serum and Cetaphil moisturizer, but this is just because I don't want to use up my Neova really fast since it's expensive.
Other brands of copper peptide products are Skin Biology (I'm overwhelmed by all of the options and strengths they carry, though), and Juvess, which I just read about yesterday. The Juvess price is really good, but I don't know if it's a good product. I didn't find a whole lot about it online.
