1st 5k is tomorrow and it's going to rain :(

I live in So Cal and it hardly rains here and I'm so upset. Tomorrow is the only day it's going to rain too. Should I go buy anything special that helps running in the rain not completely suck? I'm thinking of going to buy a new jacket.Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated. I'm so bummed :(

Re: 1st 5k is tomorrow and it's going to rain :(

  • Wear a baseball type hat (brimmed) to keep the rain off your face.  I love running in the rain.

  • You won't melt! You probablydibtevenneed a jacket. By the time you start running you won't even notice the rain!

Brimmed hat for sure, and body glide up anywhere you think you might chafe!

  • Running in the rain is usually pretty fun I think. I'm running a 10k tomorrow and it's probably going to rain. If you wear glasses, wear a brimmed hat to keep the rain off of them. As long as it's not a super cold rain, you should be fine without a jacket. If it's say below 45 degrees you might want something warmer.
  • Wear a hat with a brim, and spread anti-chafe (Body Glide, Sportwax, Vaseline) on your feet, groin, inner thighs, bra line, underarms where your sleeves/straps end... anywhere there is the potential for rubbing/chafing.

Running in the rain is FUN. :) And it makes you feel hardcore. Have a good time!

  • I don't think you need to buy anything special. Wear a hat and technical clothes (no cotton) and embrace the rain. I promise it isn't that bad. It'll keep you cool.

  • I love rainy runs! Bring a few extra layers to keep warm and dry. I'd need a layer to warm up in, one to race, and one for after.

  • My first 5k was in the rain... like down pour rain. I didn't really think too much (Ijust started running and had never run in the rain) so I wore a cotton VS Pink hoodie. Yeah - that sucker weighed like 15lbs by the end haha. However, funnest 5k I have run. Enjoy it!!
