Discomfort? Sex, BC and pelvic pain.

Hello everyone,

To make a long story short, in the past I have had a laproscopic cycstectomy (surgery to remove multiple ovarian cysts) due to polycycstic ovarian syndrome. I have also been diagnosed with vaginismus (the involuntarily contraction of pelvic muscles which makes intercourse impossible or extremely painful). Due to the PCOS, I was prescribed birth control pills which I took off and on for 3 years-but I've noticed a connection. Each time I stop taking my birth control pills, my vaginismus symptoms seem to disappear. Of course, there is still some discomfort, but nothing compared to what my DH and I are usually faced with (abstinence).

Recently, I've been so excited that I'm 'functioning' again, my husband and I have been fairly busy, however, now I have pelvic discomfort and my bladder doesn't feel the same. I am sure to void my bladder before and after sex to avoid UTIs, but am concerned with the pelvic discomfort and am not sure to link it to the scar tissue, the fact that I have pretty much been abstinent for a VERY long time, or if it's something else. Any shared experiences would be appreciated. And yes, I do plan on making a doctor's appointment either way :)

TIA!

Re: Discomfort? Sex, BC and pelvic pain.

  • Have you ever heard of interstitial cystitis?  It may feel like a bad UTI, but there is no infection.  It is a disease where the lining of your bladder is defective.  Symptoms include bladder discomfort (especially after sex) and more frequent urination.  Talk to you gyn, or find a GOOD urogyn or urologist.
  • I know that when I went off of BC all my pelvic pain went away.  As much as I miss the ease of BC I don't miss the pain.  I am not a Dr. but I think it had to do with the BC for me.
