How late is too late for a thank you note?
I had a great interview over a week ago, but never sent a thank you note. I've never sent a thank you note for any interview, but my DH mentioned how important it is, and now I'm regretting not doing that. I'm afraid if I send one this long after the interview it will make a bad impression, like I'm not organized and on top of things. Thoughts?
Re: How late is too late for a thank you note?
Over a week ago - I am not sure...but some factor would really vary. At my last job interview I was told the number of applicants and the number of first interviews. I was also told when I would hear from them. If the time has past when would would have heard, then I'd not send it.
If the time frame did not pass, I'd send it.
At my last interview they asked if I'd like for my resume to be sent to others within the field if they opted not to hire me, so in that case I'd send one late as opposed to never... since you really never do know how or when you name/resume will travel.
I accepted a job two weeks ago with a company I sent multiple thank you notes to. I had multiple interviews and after each interview I sent a thank you. When the job was offered to me, my now supervisor told me I was the only one to send thank you letters, and that they thought it had died out with the poor economy.
I say send the thank you note. It's not going to hurt to send one. I agree with pp, better late than never.
