So we're going to see H's parents tomorrow. EVERY time we see them, his mom asks him in front of me "Sooo, hows your laundry??" (she's an azz)
This goes back to him not doing his laundry when he lived alone years ago. We've been living together for 3 years, and do our laundry together. I KNOW she asks b/c she thinks I should do it for him, like she would, but I have other things going on in my life and I don't care.
However, when she asks I always feel about 2 inches tall. Even when we say "it's good, we're all set" there is always some dumb remark or another.
So tomorrow when she asks I want to say something that makes it clear that she shouls stop asking, nothing too sassy but enough to get the point across. Plus, i'm pretty shy so nothing too bold either, haha! ![]()
Re: Help, I need a good come-back!!
Nothing bold? I'm out.
Why doesn't your husband just say "mom, I'm a grown married man. It's not your job to worry about my laundry"?
She thinks she's being funny from a time before you arrived on the scene. Don't sweat it.
"Laundry? We've given up on laundry. Now, we just buy new clothes whenever anything gets dirty."
"My goodness, I was taught never to air my dirty laundry."
"Mine is fine and gives its regards to your laundry!"
"Bless your heart to worry about our laundry, now you pay it no never mind and we can talk about more fun things."
Why don't you bring ALL of your laundry over there? Yours, his, all of the sheets and towels, a HUGE load?
Leave it in the car, and then when she asks, bring it in, dump it on her, and tell her to let you know when it's all done?
Or is that feeding into her desires? I'm thinking that would break her of asking but if it doesn't, then all your laundry gets done!
"Our laundry? It's fine. Why do you ask?"
You could always use the pun route:
"I don't want to soft soap you. Everything is under control."
"This topic is under water. Don't ask again."
"We still have to iron out the wrinkles, but we are on track with it so far."
"Figures; an agitator like you would push the subject."
"It'll all come out in the wash, what's happening."
