Who else is fighting this bad allergy season (already)?

I have been taking clartin (once a day), and benadryl.  And still getting my butt kicked my nature!

Re: Who else is fighting this bad allergy season (already)?

  • I just moved (on Wednesday) and the allergens here are different than home.  Man they are kicking my butt!

  • Me!  They are really terrible this year.
  • I've been suffering for weeks. I'm hoping the cooler weather we are getting this week will help.

  • Yup, I'm miserable in the mornings!

This!! Ugh this morning is the worst too!! I canNOT stop stratching my eyes!! I look like a pothead they're so bloodshot!! I put my contacts in for 2 minutes & had to take them out so I could put more eye drops in (which I did before I went to bed, at 2am, & 7am to attempt to stay on top of things) I take Zyrtec D & Nasonex in the am, use Visine Allergy eye drops as often as I can have my contacts out, & I take an OTC sleep aid before bed (for the antihistamine)

GuuuHH! Makes it really hard to enjoy Spring/the nice weather when you are miserable!! All I want to do is be outside & yet I pay the price in the most miserable way when I do! BOO!

Ditto.  My allergies never really went away this winter, which is just cruel.

A friend posted an article on Facebook a couple days ago indicating that allergen levels were dangerously high (whatever that means) in the Midwest because of the recent warm spell.  People all over the nation are suffering this year, making the warm weather a mixed blessing.

I have allergies from hell and had the mother of all sinus infections this winter, so I can offer a few suggestions for those who are struggling to find relief:

    1.  Use a neti pot, especially in the morning.  It helps clear out what has built up overnight.

    2.  Use an air purifier in your bedroom, and elsewhere in the house if you are at home during the day.

    3. Ask your doctor about taking an oral antihistamine AND using a nasal steroid such as Nasonex.  These drugs are far more effective in combination than they are by themselves.  If the psuedoephedrine in the oral med gives you medicine head (which is a problem that I have), try cutting the pills in half.  I do this and find that they clear me up just as effectively but with far weaker side effects.

    4. Ask your doctor about using a nasal histamine.  I believe there are two out there.  At the direction of my ENT, I started using one this year and the difference has been huge.  Unlike a nasal steroid, a nasal antihistamine works almost immediately, and you can use it as needed, as opposed to a steroid, which must be used every day to be effective.  It also helps with eye allergies to an extent, although I am still dealing with red and slightly irritated eyes that sort of feel like dry eye.

    HTH!

  • Me! The usual stuff is not working and my eyes have been constantly watering.
