Being/eating healthy at work!

I just started working full time about 2 months ago (first time in about 4 years!). For the most part I eat pretty healthy, but the problem is around 2pm some days, I either get that little mid-afternoon sleepiness going on, or I get bored, and as a way to solve both of those things I'll go to the vending machine and eat something like a Twix!  As I said I eat pretty healthy so I hate that I'll "ruin" a healthy eating day with this. I also know it's not the end of the world and trust me I have no problem treating myself, which is why I hate when I ruin a good "treat' on a stupid vending machine snack.

Any tips for eating healthy or being healthy while working full time? What types of snacks do you pack ahead and make sure you have on hand?

Thanks for the help!  As far as working out I've still been working out 4 days a week since I started working (I used to do more, though). 3 of those days I do pilates at my pilates studio (reformer, spring board, exo chair & mat), and 1 of those days I do cardio at the gym. I KNOW I need more cardio but I need to fit it in after work and it's so hard!  I'm going to try this week though, it's only one more day heading to the gym after work... not bad..

  • I usually pack a salad and some fruit. Also, if you tend to pack soda, I would reach for a water instead.

  • I dont drink soda do at least I have that!

  • I pack a lot of snacks that are healthy. If it's sugar you're craving maybe you should make your own trail mix with some dried cranberries or something mixed in to help out. That will also help with the energy.

I work 10 hour days 5 days a week (longer on Friday's) and I just have to keep enough food available that I don't resort to vending machines/fast food ect.

Drink more water around 2:00. Cold water can up your energy.

    Hope this helps.

  • I try and bring a snack for both the AM and PM everyday.  (unless I know I am planning to eat out)

My snacks normally include a protein and fruit or veggies and run ~300 calories.I for the protein I rotate between:

    Greek Yogurt

    Cheese

    Peanut/Almond Butter

    Almonds

    Plain Chicken Breast

So I might have greek yogurt with some strawberries for my AM snack and an apple with almond butter for my PM snack.  My lunches are normally not many more calories than my AM/PM snacks.

I also keep a thing of chocolate dusted almonds at my desk and those are my go to when I want something sweet.

  • I usually need a mid morning snack (or two) and then an afternoon snack (or two).  I bring fruit for my morning snacks (usually a banana, grapes, mandarin oranges or apple sauce).  In the afternoon I have a Fiber Plus bar (they are a really good substitute to sweets/candy bars for me) shortly after lunch (or with lunch, depending upon the day) and then I've been packing greek yogurt (Chobani is my fav) for later in the afternoon - it holds me over until dinner.

  • I try to pack enough food to make it through the day, and I also try to avoid having cash/ change on me, to deter me from going to the vending machines. Clearly I have very little willpower.

I pack of number of snacks, including fresh and dried fruit, almonds, dry cereal, string cheese, lots of cut up veggies, sometimes a little bit of peanut butter or hummus. I try to save one of the "sweet" parts of my lunch for that afternoon lull. So I'll save my homemade trail mix (dried cranberries, almonds, dry cereal, or something like that), or berries, etc. for later in the day. I get to have a my sweet fix without blowing my day.

  • I usually pack a snack to eat around 3:30.  I also have some green tea at the same time.  Typically it's fruit (apple, orange, banana) or veggies and hummus or a cheese stick.  I also have a snack drawer where I keep portioned almonds and mini luna bars in case I am still hungry or need more food one day.
