I was asked to partcipate (non-competitive) in the MuckRuckus to stop MS. I don't think this is nearly as hard as the Tough Mudders -- but hard enough (6 miles, 25+ obstacle courses).
A few reasons -- I don't feel at all ready for a June race. I lift and run consistently, but that's it. (I want to do a tri, I'll do bricks / get in the pool more often.)
I get filthy in tri sprints -- but I don't know about mud running down my face.
I keep thinking I'll get injured -- I never feel that way for sprints.
I feel like dog crap to say no bc it's for a good cause. I can def do my part contributing and cheering, of course, but I know it's not the same thing. Anyone here not want to do a mud run that has particpated and loved it?

I am the exact opposite, but understand what you are saying. I enjoy mud runs and completed Tough Mudder. I think I enjoy them because they aren't as formal. I am not a runner; never time my runs, just enjoy being active, so mud runs make me feel like I am not competing against others.
Regular marathons and half's aren't my thing, so stick to what you enjoy.

I haven't done one because I'm a huge klutz and am afraid I'll get injured. Plus, we're on a super tight budget and these races tend to be pricey.
DH ran one last year and had an awful time. It was about 40 degrees outside, involved a swim at the beginning of the 7 mile race, and then he stepped on his ankle funny shortly after the swim. He said he spent the rest of the race taking it easy, trying not to injure anything else, and hoping he didn't come down with hypothermia. Not really my idea of fun.
My husband will be doing his third Mud Run this June, and both he and a few other running buddies have tried to convince me of all the fun I will have if I join them. I made all sorts of excuses for awhile, but finally came clean this year about the real reason I won't do these types of races:
The mud looks like poop. I can't get past that. If it were just, like, knee deep...maybe. But on my face? In my hair? Probably in my mouth? No. Not happening. Poop races will just have to go on without this girl :-)
lol, poop races.
Is it the one in Philly? I did it two years ago and it was a lot of fun!
If you really don't want to do it though, don't.
