I have crappy knees...patellar instability is the big problem. I had a meniscus shaved when I was 19 because I'd dislocated my knee so many times that I tore the cartilage to holy hell.
Fast forward to two years ago, when I dislocated it again, really badly. It's all healed up, but I have some anxiety around running long distances because I'm nervous it will give out on me, even though that has not happened. I'm just a nervous Nellie.
I have a 15k next weekend, and have been training quite a bit. No knee problems other than a little soreness now and again. So my question is...would it hurt to tape up? even if it was just for peace of mind?
Talk me off the ledge, people!

I'm a new user of kt tape. Even if you applied it all wrong, you wouldn't hurt yourself, but you wouldn't be helping either. I really like it. I wrap anace bandage or gauze around it after I shower or to bed because it prevents the edges from coming loose and the tape lasts longer.
I've tried two different applications so far, light support and full knee support. Light knee worked better for me, believe it or not. Maybe try each app for a couple days to see where you feel more comfortable. It helpedme improve because I felt more confident using my knee and I wasn't changing my form anticipating pain. You might try looking up inner knee or meniscus applications too.
Here is a video to full knee support, which even discusses the meniscus in the text on the page

Here is the app I prefer
Yes, yes we should!!!

I've been using KT tape on my long runs for about 10 months. I love it, and swear its one of the reasons I made it through race season w/o any injuries. I also have some patella tracking issues.
I use the light application - which is no longer on the KT TAPE website. You can see the video on youtube here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODusRz1fX50
The link to my blog in my sig has a billion pictures of me w/ KT tape on my right knee.
