Bucket list of places to go

Next year DH and I can apply for our British passports and plan on travelling more then (on our SA passports we need visa's to visit anywhere and we are cheap so we never wanted to apply for extra visas when we never needed them). We are thinking of drawing up a bucket list of places we want to visit, so I am asking, what is on your bucket list of places to visit? Sell me places to put on there.

We have been to UK, Florida, New York and South Africa (obviously).

Re: Bucket list of places to go

  • Right now I have:

    Namibia and Antartica

Also Israel and Jordan --Thanks flcb

    Norway

  • Austria.  Hands down one of the most beautiful countries in Europe.  They are all pretty in their own right but I loved loved loved Austria.  All of it.  Every bit.
  • Antarctica and Jordan, although right now I am trying to plan a trip for us and am really thinking I want to go to colombia

  • Rome! Then Stintino in Sardinia, Agrigento in Sicily, Egypt, Honduras, Tahiti, Macao, Madagascar and St. Petersburg.

These are all on my list.

(Among them, other than Rome, I've visited Stintino, Agrigento and Egypt... amazing places! We always say we want to go back)

  • Antarctica, Chile, Peru- well most of South America as i am lucky that these are the only places I haven't been. We basically work to travel :)
  • Perth, no real reason, but once I read it's the most isolated city in the world, and I want to see what's there.

Oslo and Copenhagen, I have been to Stockholm and Helsinki and I want to complete the Scandinavian capitals.  :)

Dublin, to see Trinity Library and the Molly Malone statute.  I was supposed to spend a week in Dublin in 2001, but plans had to change so I missed it.

The White House, I have been to DC several times, but never to the WH; the first time I was there the week the first Gulf War broke out (in 1991) and the other times, my traveling companions had been to the WH already and didn't want to see it again.  The next time I'm in DC, I AM going to tour the White House!

  • Thailand.

    The coast of Italy.

    Greece.

    Israel.

    And South Africa.

The Trinity Library was GORGEOUS! I was hesitant to pay the entrance fee but it was absolutely stunning. It reminded me so much of parts of the library in Beauty and the Beast.

My great-aunt's husband was stationed in Dublin with the USAF in the 50's and she spent a lot of time at the Trinity Library.  She always said that her time in Dublin was her favorite, and she always spoke of the Library with a find reverence.  I want to see what she saw, you know?

    - Not much haha

I am like this with the Acropolis- I have been to Athens 4 times and have never made it to the Acropolis.

  • On TV I saw people hot air ballooning over this landscape:

And now I am dying to go to Burma.

Also Laos (for tubing), somewhere/anywhere in the Middle East, Victoria Falls and a safari in Africa and Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

    Yup.

  • We have a short list of places we're trying to get to this year: Venice, Corsica, Spanish & French Basque Country, the Pyrenees, the Calanques & Cote d'Azure, and Brittany & Normandy (I've been to this last area, but DH & DD haven't).

I'm going to try to meet up with a Turkish friend in Turkey this summer with our respective kids. I love Istanbul, but haven't seen any other part of the country. Turkish Cypress is a possibility.

I'd love to get to Mozambique, but since that's not far from SA, I'm guessing it doesn't seem as exotic to you.

Next 2 years or so, here's what's on my list: Rio for Carnaval (been to Rio before, but never for Carnaval), the Grand Canyon in the US, Banff & surrounding area in Canada, Panama & Colombia.

One day I'd like to go to India, but DH has no interest and it's not a trip I feel like doing solo with DD.

Best sales pitch ever. That was a seriously stunning library, and admittedly part of why I say one of my favorite Disney princesses is Belle. I mean, who wouldn't envy that library?

  • Hi, I am a student in Trinity (free access to library and know most of the architecture of the place) so if anyone visits let me know and I'll give you a free tour :)

My bucket list includes: India, Russia, Turkey, New York and Greece.

  • My travel bucket list is a little extreme. It used to be topped with visiting the 7th continent (Antarctica), but now that that's crossed off, it took me a while to come up with new bucket-list goals.

    1. See a real live narwhal. This will probably mean a significant amount of time in Greenland, since they don't survive in captivity (You can be sure that if any aquarium ever manages to keep one alive, I'll be on the plane to visit in a heartbeat!)

    2. See a lava lake. Right now that means Mt. Nyiragongo in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Embarrassed mxolisi gives me hope that I might not be shot trying to get there. And I actually know someone who's been, so there is hope!

    3. See the Great Sand Sea.

    4. Visit Petra. Ideally, I would like to combine 3 & 4 and do a 2+ week trip through Egypt & Jordan starting from Cairo, out to Siwa, down to Abu Simbel, up through Luxor and then across the Sinai peninsula to Wadi Rum, Petra, and the Dead Sea, and then fly out of Amman. (I stole most of this itinerary from a G Adventures trip.)

    5. Hug a panda in Sichuan, China. I've always been insanely jealous of tofumonkey, and seriously regret that I never got to make this trip while I was in Beijing.

Me too! Denmark and Norway would complete my 'countries I've visited' map on FB really well too... that would take care of Western Europe with the exception of Lichtenstein, Andorra and a couple other little islands. Things to add to next year's list! I'm totally determined to get to either Oslo or Copenhagen this year.

I have absolutely loved every moment I've spent in Italy, been there 4 times so far and would go back any time.

For us, we're focussing on places we can get to cheaply from Edinburgh so we're running through the EasyJet, RyanAir, Jet2 listings. Our bucket list is very different!!

Pretty much, I'd like to see nearly every country in the ME, but I know I'm not going to get to see them all (particularly Iran...and yes, I'm bitter about that one).  Some other big bucket list items include:

    Israel

Nearly every country in Asia (particularly India, Thailand, Cambodia, Butan, Malasia, and Vietnam)

South America (namely: Costa Rica, Brazil, Chile, Argentinia)

Honestly...my bucket list is huge, those are just some of the top ones.

  • Israel is probably one of the only no-kidding bucket places left.

That said, I'd pretty much take a free trip anywhere, so still plenty of cool places to see.

Close to home (I'm American), I'd love to visit WY and MT (Jackson Hole and Yellowstone)... never been and would really like to see both parks.

Bagan is indeed amazing (been there a few times).  I'm happy to see it made it to someone's bucket list :-)

For me, India is at the top of my list, probably followed by China (only been to Beijing).
