On Sunday, I went in for my induction (40weeks 4days) because my doctors were concerned that the placenta would deteriorate quickly. They hooked me up to fetal monitors right from the start and as the nurse was finishing up inserting the IV, the baby started to freak out in my uterus. Her heart rate dropped to about 98 and then it took a while for it to normalize. A 2nd nurse, the midwife and the on call dr all came running in my room. I felt fine and would NEVER have known something was up with baby. They had me flip from one side to the other and then on my hands a knees. Also pumped me full of IV fluids and gave me an oxygen mask. Baby "normalized" and they decided to wait a bit until she had continued to show normal behavior before beginning the induction.
At about 8 they started my cervadil. Baby handled this part of the induction fine...had a few episodes, but nothing major. At 8am Monday, they took out the cervadil and had me start pitocin. By noon, baby had had numerous decel events. After these "decel" events, her heart rate would accelerate to almost 180! They stopped my induction wanted me to rest all day. I was going to retry the cervadil later that night.
As I rested, my doc noticed that I was contracting on my own! The pain level got intolerable and I opted for the epidural around 5pm. At about 8pm, the new on call dr came by and said that given all the decels she had experienced throughout the day, she recommended going for a c-section since baby was not tolerating the labor process (and it had just started). I finally agreed (after many tears) and we got the process started at about 10:30.
By 11:30, I had the most beautiful baby girl (if I do say so myself). She weighed a whopping 6 lbs even! 19.5 inches long. DH thinks the docs had my due date wrong this whole time.
So in love right now!
Re: I'm a mom!!!
Congrats! I was just wondering about you and went on here and here was your post! Glad everyone got through healthy, and Caroline is a beauty! Also, her middle name rocks
Enjoy it, it goes way to fast - my lovebug is already 5.5 months and I don't know when that happened!
