first, this isn't mud, but yes it's an ae.

i don't even know how to say this, but i've been dressing ds2 up as a girl when i take him out b/c i want to know what it's like to have a dd.  he's our last, so i know i'll never have a dd and experience that.  i really enjoy dressing him in pink and bows.  i even call him by another name when i'm out with him.  i keep telling myself i'm not doing any real harm b/c he's too young to know what i'm doing.  am i crazy?

I am not sure it will hurt the kid? I do think the mom needs a check up from the neck up though.

  • I don't think this will be damaging at 3-6 months old. But as the child ages, he may begin to feel like he's a disappointment or not enough for his mother. He is definitely headed down a road of gender confusion as well if Mom keeps this up. By that, I don't mean gender confusion such as a transgender would have but rather, having confusion with regards to what society tags gender definitions as being.

  • Bat.***.Crazy.

I read somewhere where Ernest Hemingway's mother always wanted twin girls, so when she had a singleton girl, she got pregnant right away again and had Ernest. who she proceeeded to dress as a girl, right down to Shirley Temple-like banana curls, till he was 8. And told everyone he and his older sister were twin girls.

  • I wonder if there would be the same visceral, this kid is f*cked reaction if it were a gilr she dressed like a boy.

Also, there is a differencebetween gender and sex. And I'll add that my MIL thinks I need to 'come to terms' with Joaquin being a girl because I like putting her in jeans and khakis. Even if it's with frilly pink shirts, apparently. Meh.

I do think that Mud is screwed up, but I think there's something to discuss here beyond what a headcase she is.

Yeah, the kid'll be fine. Mom, however, wow.

I personally don't get how a kid's gender changes the experience of raising them so drastically. Honestly, I don't really think that it should - particularly prepuberty. I've seen my sister struggle with major gender identity issues because a combination of her own sexuality and our mom's constant misogynism, so I get particularly stabby about putting so much importance of gender.
