Vitamins: Nausea

I just started taking Woman's One a Day in the morning. I've been taking with my morning coffee. About 20 minutes after taking them, I feel like I am going to throw up.  Anyone else have this problem? Advice?

Re: Vitamins: Nausea

  • Yes, frequently.  And it literally comes out of nowhere.  I always eat cereal in the morning and take the vitamin within 10 or 15 minutes.  Most days that works, but I always keep a cereal bar with me just in case it hits.  Two or three bites of food, and I'm good to go.  I'd eat beforehand, more than just drinking something, and keep something small and easy to eat with you.

  • I take them mid-morning or at night after I have eaten something.  Taking vitamins with just coffee is a recipe for nausea.

  • I'm not a vitamin expert, but I would have the same problem no matter what time of day I took them. I found that gummy vitamins don't upset my stomach. I'm not really sure why, but it might be worth trying if other things don't work Smile

  • I take that same brand and the exact same thing happens.  I absolutely have to eat it with a full stomach or I get nauseated.  I usually wait until after lunch b/c my breakfast is usually not enough food to keep it from happening (even though I have coffee, bowl of cereal w/ milk and a banana usually).  I must have a lot of food in my stomach.
  • I take them right after lunch for this reason.  Coffee + vitamin = upset stomach first thing in the morning.

  • I also take them before bed.

  • I take a children's vitamin, so much easier on the stomach.

  • When I take vitamins, I have to take them right before I go to bed because they make me so nauseous.

  • Yes, I can't take regular vitamins. A children's gummy vitamin has never made me feel sick though. My dr. recommended it.
  • The Women's One-A-Day made me stomach sick no matter what I did/didn't eat with it. I switched vitamins (I'm taking a Costco brand multi-vitamin) and haven't had the same problem. I heard once that the iron in the vitamin might cause the nausea? Not sure if that's true, but my current vitamin has half the Women's version and I'm not feeling it anymore.

  • I have 2 trucks. Put them in the freezer. Or take funnies. The freezer trick worked for me for a while but now I can only handle gummies

I had to read this a few times to make sure I wasn't drunk. lol! I get what you meant though.

I made the mistake of taking mine 10 minutes before we ate dinner one night, and by the time H came out to the dining room to eat I was sweating and that i'mgonnahurlsoon saliva was forming in my mouth. DEFINITELY eat WITH food.

  • I'm pretty sure it's the iron, at least that's what I've heard.  I used to get sick after taking vitamins, regardless of the time or whether I had eaten. A lot of the children's vitamins have low to no iron, and I find they do not make me ill.  I take an adult gummy now that does not have iron and I no longer have any problems.

  • It is the Iron that usually causes the nausea.  Many vitamins do not have the high iron that Women's OAD does - since many women are iron deficient it is good to have iron but if it is a choice between taking one without iron or none at all, then I would go for the gummies or look for a brand with less iron.

This is what I do.  Not only does it eliminate the nausea, but for some reason I don't forget to take them like I sometimes used to in the mornings.
