PSA: Alabaster has been banned

It's been announced:

http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/1/64521219/ShowThread.aspx

BNOTB won't let this issue drop though. They want their board back to normal, but are still posting on all these threads. I agree that people were nasty on both sides, but if they keep feeding the monster it won't stop.

Re: PSA: Alabaster has been banned

  • It must take a while to go into effect, since she posted after that announcement was made.

Good riddance, is all I have to say.

    Oh, FFS.
  • Too bad the nest isn't as technical as to ban IP address rather than just sn. How silly, she can just make an AE and come right back?

Right? Though there's not a ton else TN could do. Meh.

I will say that I generally find it strange when people ask for each other to get banned.  Like tattletaling brown nosers.  I know this is the lady internet and all, but it still seems below the belt (even though ala is obviously an egregious twat).

  • I totally missed all of this. What happened? We've been staying at MIL's because we were having our bathroom remodeled this week.

  • I followed your link over there and read most of the posts with big numbers but I think most of the bad stuff was edited-out by the moderator. Her siggy was blank. I could only make-out pieces of what was offensive. Could you re-cap what went over the edge?

My darling daughter just turned 4 years old.

My understanding is that she changed her sig to show dates she was raped and the death date of her 23 year old cat. I didn't see it because it had already been changed by the time I got to the posts, that's just what I gathered from responses.

  • I just tried to find the OP (had something like 30k views) and it appears to have been taken down. Ok, lets see if I can do the cliff notes version.

This all happens on the BNOTB board. Quotes are my paraphrased version. **other posters, PLEASE correct me if I state something wrong** I'm not trying to incite anything, but people should know what all this uproar is about.

    1. New poster to the board introduces herself. Says "you girls sound like fun, will you accept me on your board". Post has NOTHING to do with babies, but she has pregnancy jargon in her signature which includes mentioning her two late-term miscarriages that have happened in the last nine months.

    2. First reply is "we'll accept you if you change your signature"

    3. OP says "my signature is about my angel babies and I don't have the heart to remove it. I'm not interested in talking about them here. If I want to talk about babies, I would post somewhere else."

    4. Alabaster pipes in and says "I don't want to be reminded about your dead babies every time you post something".

    5. Board explodes (reasonably so). Alabaster acts like a psycho and even changes her signature to include things like "I never knew my dad, I was raped, my cat died".

    6. People from everywhere on TN/TB/TK and start calling Alabaster out. She totally deserved to be called out cause she was being an azzhat. People start saying things like "you deserve to be raped" and other nasty thing. So people tried fighting nasty with nasty.

    7. Alabaster starts new thread about dead baby jokes:

    http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/64484999.aspx

several other follow ups ensued including one from the OP:

    http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/64483159.aspx

BNOTB was flooded by people posting stuff about babies and demanding that something be done about Alabaster.

Then the link that I posted above.

My take: The OP absolutely did not deserve any of this. Alabaster is out of her mind. But it isn't effective to call someone a despicable person by saying despicable things to them. Just doesn't work.

Banning people because you don't like what they say is ridiculous.  Yeah, NONE of us agreed with what Alabaster was saying to figgs... but someone being a b1tch doesn't really sound like a bannable offense.

And I agree with the tattletale element.  And there is something weird to me about just trying to get rid of people you don't agree with.  It's not like Alabaster threatened figgs life or anything.

  • Takes a while to go into effect? WTF, man. I got banned for having a sig with the word "slut" in it. As far as I can tell, I was reported and got banned IMMEDIATELY. I also have read about some people being warned before an outright ban, and again, I wasn't warned. Yet here is something that's actually hurting somebody, and it seems it was done more leniently. I am not really down with the whole "playing internet police" thing, but if they bump is going to do it, they should really pick a standard and enforce it to the same level consistently.

I would normally agree with this, but the stuff she said was just so gross. I have seen a lot of nastiness on these boards, and that was so far over the line I can see why everyone wanted her gone. Hell, I wanted her gone, too. There's pot-stirring and being b|tchy, and then there's the stuff she said and did during that whole mess. And I think a little of it too is the fact that the OP didn't do one single thing to be treated that way, they jumped on her immediately over a few lines in her siggy (and the so-called 'offended' BNOTB posters are pretty pathetic if they're so worried about a stupid siggy). Who knows, maybe I'm overly sensitive cause I just had a m/c two months ago, but I'm not easily offended and her comments/actions really crossed a line. I do think Figgs handled the whole thing with class though. I doubt many would have dealt with it like she did.

    Oh, FFS.

She came across as a crappy human being... but nothing i saw her say was out and out offensive. Im grossed out by her as a person... but it wasnt like she was saying she was glad figgs lost those babies and hopes shes never able to have another.  i think people are having a hard time seeing what she said objectively because it was about the taboo subject of dead babies.  But if you actually read what she said, nothing about it was bannable.  insensitive?  totally!  but not bannable.  and this is coming from someone who was outraged that alabaster had such cold and black heart.

  • The super crazy thread was posted to our little BMB Facebook group. Then someone posted Al's FB profile and ... we have mutual friends. Indifferent

I didn't do it, but it was super tempting to be a complete biitchface and send Mutual a link to the post since she's a friend friend and not just a FB friend.
