NOT thinking of dating at all right now, but I am just curious...

I have no plans to date till paperwork is out the door and signed (I don't even move out for another month). I'm just starting to think of what it might be like and I am curious...

Do certain online dating websites attract certain types of men? What site have you enjoyed the most? Judging from all the talk on here, dating has changed since I last did it more than 11 years ago!

Re: NOT thinking of dating at all right now, but I am just curious...

  • It's regional.  In some parts, match and eharmony are great.  In others, it's the free sites like Plenty of Fish and OKCupid.  There are also niche sites (Fitness singles, Christian Mingle, JDate) and those will attract men of a certain type.

Here you get guido-wannabe's on every site.  It just depends on your location and takes some trial and error.

  • I agree that it's regional.  Here (in the sticks) POF is mostly a hook-up site.  Match is okay, but most of the "potentials" aren't really close, location-wise (apparently Match isn't really sure where in the heck I live!).  I've not gotten on Eharmony this time around (met XH on there).
  • I've tried match, pof, okcupid... I disliked match the most, but really I don't have a lot of great things to say about online dating.

  • I liked Match the most. But that's really not saying much. I definitely encourage people who are jumping back into the dating scene to take some time trying to meet people in real life. Join a meetup group, volunteer, etc.I found online dating to be really overwhelming when I was just starting dating. Likely you'll be bombarded with a bunch of zeros and it can be exhausting and depressing. It's definitely a needle in a haystack kinda deal.

I agree with getting involved.  I joined a volleyball, kickball and flag football league.  I met a lot of great people through volleyball and even some cute guys.
