Removing glittery nail polish

The new Hunger Games line of polishes from China Glaze (Capitol Colours) is full of glitter--some more than others.  I swear it chips if you look at it sideways, but when I go to remove it I feel like I use half a bottle of polish remover and a ton of cotton balls.  Any suggestions on the most effective way to remove polish with a lot of glitter in it?

Re: Removing glittery nail polish

  • Soak a cotton ball in remover (I like a nice straight acetone) and then wrap it around your nail with aluminum foil. Let it set for 5-10 minutes and remove. Most if not all the polish will come off, you may have to swipe each nail to get the leftovers.

this. do one hand at a time.

I just removed Electrify (the red and gold glitter) over Riveting (the shimmery orange) yesterday. both of these polishes were Hunger Games polishes. the manicure also had a coat of Gelous (a very thick gel topcoat) on top, so I had a lot to get through to completely remove it. I soaked a cotton ball in straight acetone and held it to each nail for about 5 minutes each. one swipe mostly removed the polish. each cotton ball lasted through 2 nails. yes, it is tedious. I read a book while removing my polish.

  • You could try applying a coat of clear nail polish before you apply glitter (or any color for that matter).  I find that when it's time to take it off with polish remover, it just glides right off.

yep, this is what i do. works like a charm! i usually pull my cotton balls in half, so i only use 5 at the time.

  • I got a sample of Deborah Lippman's Stripper to Go in my Birchbox one month.  It works really well!  It's a little pricey compared to buying a bottle of nail polish remover, but I was amazed at how easily it removed glitter polish.

  • Nutra Nail No Mess Express Gel Perfect Remover is my favorite remover right now. Its pricey but it is great at removing really thick polish quickly.

This is the exact color I meant!  Wink  Thanks for the advice, ladies.  Oh, and on a different note, any tricks to make it stay on longer than 24 hours?

  • I posted this in another thread, but I was able to keep this manicure on through 2 consecutive nursing shifts (I wash my hands at least 50 times a shift, so my manicures usually chip after one shift) and it would have made it through a third had I actually worked yesterday.

    I used:

China Glaze Strong Adhesion base coat

    Riveting and Electrify

Gelous top coat (it is a thick gel-like top coat meant for long lasting manicures)

Poshe quick-dry top coat (because Gelous takes FOREVER to dry)

Where do you find this?  I live in BFE, so online is good for me, too.
