What do you think of this color block dress?

I'd really like to get a piece or two with color blocking, but it's hard to find plus size items that I think will be flattering.  I think the vertical lines in this could be flattering.  I don't do sleeveless, so I would wear a short sleeve black cardigan with this.  What do you think?

Re: What do you think of this color block dress?

  • I don't like the white on the sides, I wish it were black.  I don't really think the coloring scheme/layout would be complimentary.
  • No thank you.  The model looks heavy.
  • My Mom has that dress! (No it's not a bad thing, my mom is more fashionable than me some days).

It looks great on her. Much much better than it does on the hanger.

  • I think it would look better if the colors were reversed, with the white in the middle and the blue on the outsides.  As it is, my eye goes to the lightest part, which is her hips.  I'd worry it wouldn't be flattering.

This is what I was trying to say but couldn't figure out how to say it

Same here. I would like it a lot more if it were reversed or with black on the outsides. A black cardi might help with the issue but I would want to try it on first.

And random but hate the shoes with this dress. I think what makes color blocking work is clean, sharp lines and the shoes are too distracting and strappy. I'd like a more simple patent black pump.

  • I agree with PPs about the colors needing to be reversed.  Also, if you do a black cardigan on top with the white on your hips you could easily make yourself appear more bottom heavy.  The black will slim you on top, but the contrasting white will draw the eye straight to the width of your hips potentially making you look wider and unbalanced.

This. I think the dark color should be on the outside and the light color on the inside, if you KWIM. If you don't do sleeveless, that's strike two. I'd keep looking.

If I find anything I'll holla back.

Didn't even think of this, and I think you are totally right!
