Hunger games movie.. who saw it? (potential spoilers)

So who saw the hunger games over the weekend?

Thoughts?

Dh and I went on Friday afternoon. I didn't think he'd go see it but he liked it. I thought they did an alright job taking the book to the screen. There are a lot of details in the books.

I loved Lenny Kravitz. Cinna was my favorite character in the books. I wish her entry out fit was a bit cooler though.

Re: Hunger games movie.. who saw it? (potential spoilers)

  • I'm going this week. I'm SO excited. One of my students (a boy) started reading the book this weekend and said he read it while in the shower! Like, one arm sticking out, because he didn't want to put it down. LOVE it.
  • I love reading but I have never been that addicted that I have to read in the shower.

  • Me neither. I laughed pretty hard when he told me and asked how he managed to keep the book dry.
  • I'm going to see it this week with my book club girls. I was not in love with the book (it was ok but nothing groundbreaking, plus I'm not a big fan of YA) but it was a book club pick last year so it will be nice to see it with the group.  I think I may enjoy it more as a movie than I did as a book.

  • I saw the movie this weekend with my mom. We both really enjoyed it. Obviously they couldn't capture all of the details but I thought they did a pretty good job translating it from a book to a movie. I'll be seeing again soon with Kyle.

  • DH and I went to see it Saturday night. Neither one of us read the book and we liked it. It wasn't anything original though because this movie reminds me a lot of Battle of Royale.

  • I thought it was very, very well done, but I wanted more!  Some characters and relationships weren't developed enough for me - I loved Cinna and wanted more.  Katniss and Rue's relationship (more Rue!).  More Gale.  More of the preparations for the Games.  Although, I realize it would have been 5 hours long if I had my way.

Oh yeah, it's totally inspired by Battle Royale. I said the same thing when I picked up the book a couple years ago. Most kids haven't seen Battle Royale though, so the concept is new to them. My husband doesn't want to see it because he loves Battle Royale so much.

As far as YA go, I like them a lot. The writing doesn't drive me crazy (a la Twilight drivel) and they seem to be crossing the gender boundaries too, which is really unusual for a book with a female protagonist. I mean, they are YA books too.

  • I do have to admit I want to read the books now. Maybe Eddie will buy them for me. (:

Dora, I have a copy of the trilogy that you can have if you'd like it. Right now it's just sitting in our book donation box.

  • I went to the midnight premier on Thursday evening! I loved it. I was a little disappointed at how they approached her receiving the mockingjay pin, but other than that, I didn't miss any of the minor details that they left out. I thought it was very well done, and I looooooved the characters. Jennifer Lawrence is the PERFECT Katniss.
