What are some healthy cereals?

It's the easiest thing for me to eat in the morning. I'm looking for tasty, low sugar, healthy ones that are good for me to eat while trying to lose my last 10 lbs.

Re: What are some healthy cereals?

  • My faves are the Kashi brands.  Go Lean is my fave, but I also like most of the other flavors.  I also eat just plain Cheerios and Multi Grain Cheerios and add fresh fruit to them.

Oatmeal is also a healthy quick breakfast.  Use just plain oats and add fresh fruit, a little honey or a little peanut butter.  Yummy!

  • I love oatmeal, Cheerios, Corn Chex, Kashi cereals, grape nuts

I'm a huge fan of Kashi cereals.  Weetabix with fruit or raisins mixed in is pretty tasty and high in fiber.

  • My latest favorite isn't one of the BEST cereals but it's definitely one of the better ones: Peanut butter multigrain cheerios. OMG amazing.
  • I prefer eating plain Cheerios. Because they're not full of sugar, I can have a full bowl full for only 200 calories (2 cups) plus milk (85 calories). My biggest problem with breakfast cereals is portion control - 1 cup of Raisin Bran is 190 calories, but somehow it doesn't fill me up like 2 cups of Cheerios does, so I eat a lot more.
  • My grocery store has brand called Mom's Best. It's super cheap and the toasted wheatfuls are lower in sugar than many cereals if you get the plain kind.

I also like Grainberry toasted oats or flakes, but they can be pricey.

    Kashi isn't bad, either.

  • I like to mix them! A base of cheerios, with uncle sam, chex or bear naked low sugar granola. I'll also do peanut butter puffins or cracklin' oat bran, but I measure out only a 1/3 of a portion because they do have more calories. I top it with frozen blueberries (it makes the milk ice cold and I think it's more satisfying) and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice. I usually make it with unsweetened vanilla almond milk to cut down on the sugar, but I do prefer the taste of skim.
  • I like a lot of the ones already mentioned. Not sure if anyone said Grape Nuts. I love those things!

Also, I often make 'overnight oats' as an easy breakfast. Mix 1/2 cup rolled oats (not instant), with 1/2 cup each of milk (any type) and Greek yogurt. Add in a bit of sweetener (honey, maple syrup, etc.), and fruit. Stir it up and cover it with plastic wrap or a lid. In the morning, top it off with nuts if you like. It's pretty tasty and you can mess with the flavor combos pretty easily. Best of all, it's already in the bowl for you, so all you have to do is pull it from the fridge, eat, and rinse your bowl.

P.S. I usually let it sit on the counter for 15 minutes or so while I shower. I don't like it too cold. You can also microwave it for a few seconds instead.
