40th Anniversary Gift? ideas

I am looking for a meaningful but not too expensive anniversary gift for my parents.  I am also throwing them a surprise party the weekend of their anniversary so I already have and "event" planned.  I was just looking for something that might be meaningful or personal to give them at the party (the gift would be from myself and my brother). I thought about an updated family portrate or plaque?  I am out of ideas.

Re: 40th Anniversary Gift? ideas

  • perhaps a copy of their wedding photo in an antique frame with the origianl weddign date and happy 40th engraved? not sure.
Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:
Alison's book recommendations, favorite quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • 40 things they taught you about life, love and marriage?
  • When my parents had their 40th, my sisters and I did a picture frame filled with pictures of them throughout the years. We purposely didn't add in pictures of us or the grandchildren so it would be all about them.

    They really loved it.

  • We did a your love gorws and surrounds you:

Center their wedding picture then 4 branches for each kid - then pictures of us with our significant others, then from there the grand children

it was done on a yellow back drop with all black and white photos

    they loved it

  • I work in a public library and we often get requests from people for these occasions, they are looking for the original wedding notice/article printed in the paper when their parents got married, to either frame as a gift or use on the invitations.

Often, the local library will have the local paper back to the beginning so if you like that idea you should call the library in the town where they lived/were married.
