Have we discussed Alicia Silverstone feeding her son from her mouth?

I knew she was all crunchy granola but this is a new level.

And there is a video of course.

Taste test!

Alicia Silverstone?s little one is already learning how to share ? at the breakfast table.

But no eating utensils, no problem: In the latest video posted on her website, the actress feeds her 10-month-old son, Bear Blu, mouth-to-mouth.

?I just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi with nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon. Yum!? Silverstone, 35, writes on The Kind Life, her online expansion to her vegan cookbook, The Kind Diet.

?I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup ? from my mouth to his.?

She adds: ?It?s his favorite ? and mine. He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I?m eating.?

The video, she says, was filmed about a month or two ago ?when he was a bit wobbly.?

But that doesn?t seem to be an issue anymore for Bear, who is her first child with husband Christopher Jarecki, whom she wed in June 2005.

?Now he is grabbing my mouth to get the food!? she writes.

  • Vom...

I try to be open minded about parenting stuff....but I don't see how that could possibly be a good idea. For any reason.

That sounds too gross to watch. I hope she has stellar oral health, otherwise that's an excellent way to fast track your kid to dental disease.
  • Good luck with teaching your son to grope in your mouth for food. Surely that will never had unsanitary repercussions.  Ick!Tongue Tied

  • Masticating food for babies is completely normal... in cultures that don't have spoons and knives.
  • Utensils aren't even remotely necessary for learning how to eat. She needs to lay off the pipe

Yeah.  I consider myself pretty crunchy and to me that means avoiding foods that a baby isn't ready for.  If my baby can't chew it on her own, she doesn't eat it.  When she is able to hold it and eat it on her own, it's a sign she's ready for it.  No mastification required on my part.  I actually don't need to be involved at all past throwing the food on her tray and letting her explore on her own.

It doesn't really gross me out at all, I just don't get why anyone would do it?  To each their own, I guess.

  • Am I the only one who finds it equally strange that she is eating soup and ice cream for breakfast?

FWIW we hand-weaned two of our three parrots, and I didn't even feed them like that when they were babies. I can't think of a good reason to feed a human child this way.

  • Everything I've read from her lately reeks of trying too damned hard. It's obnoxious.

  • This is disgusting.  What is wrong with her
