Help with Costa Rica Itinerary
Hello,
I will be traveling to San Jose, Costa Rica for a business trip in May and my husband and I like to take advatage of my international work travels and make a vacation out of it. I am going to head to Costa Rica early and I would like suggestions on the places to visit.
We will have 5 nights/6 days to travel before work begins for me. I would like to see rainforest/nature as well as see a beach. With the amount of time that I have, what places would you receommned and how would we get to them?
TIA
Re: Help with Costa Rica Itinerary
I'd go to Manuel Antonio on the coast - gorgeous area, easily accessible from San Jose (relative to the other areas in Costa Rica), great wildlife, forest, beach... lots to keep you busy.
As PP mentioned, just arrange transport to / from your hotel through the hotel. I would advise against driving in Costa Rica - seemed like too much of a headache to me, and transport was generally not very expensive (about $100 each way or so, for 2 people). Alternatively, if you're short on time you could fly between the two destinations easily.
We just got back from Costa Rica this weekend. We spent 4 nights in Manuel Antonio and 4 nights in Santa Teresa/Malpais.
Manuel Antonio is a 25 minute flight from San Jose (in to Quepos) $6 ride to the condo we rented in a complex that had 4 pools and a private beach. We did a park tour of Manuel Antonio for $40/person. LOVED the area and want to go back. Look up Tulemar if you're interested. Tons of restaurants within walking distance of our condo.
in Santa Teresa/Malpais we flew in to Tambor and rented a car. Gorgeous relaxing area with tons of restaurants. did ziplining in Montezuma and ATV tour in Santa Teresa.
One of our best vacations ever.
This. We rented a car & it was a bit of adventure but so fun! I've got a review in my blog, have a great time!
With the amount of time you have, I would recommend splitting it between Manuel Antonio and La Fortuna/Arenal. I didn't visit Manuel Antonio on my trip to Costa Rica last year (went further away to Nosara) but I did go to La Fortuna/Arenal and had a great time. I have entries in my travel blog here on the trip: http://wanderlusttraveler.blogspot.com/search/label/Costa Rica
This! I did Arenal to Manuel Antonio with friends and it was awesome! We had quite an adventure. 7 girls, 2 cars! In between we stopped at a coffee plantation. You have to be an aggressive driver for sure.
