Ring help

I've been wearing my engagement ring & wedding ring for months now & every now & again my skin under the ring has been dry, itchy & red.  My sister-in-law recommended I take my rings off when I wash my hands/dished & dry my fingers good & if I have the rings on, take them off & wipe the inside dry.  I have been doing that, but it doesn't seem to work.  Any advice on what to do or creams to try?  I've tried eucerine & others & don't notice much of a difference.  I was thinking of keeping my rings off for a few days, but I don't want to do that.

Re: Ring help

  • I would take your rings off and let your finger heal. I take mine off every night and don't shower, clean, or swim wearing them. Also what is the metal? Could you be allergic to something in the metal?
  • Try an antifungal, something for athlete's foot, or see a dermatologist.

ditto.  DH says he's been married twice as long as me because I take my ring off so often. =)

  • Are they white gold? I've read that some people are allergic to the alloying metals in white gold. I think this might be the case with my DH. I'd take the rings off for awhile and give it some time to heal.
  • I'd take them off completely for a few days. Let your fingers heal. If they heal, great. Continue to take them off at night to let your skin "air out." If they don't heal, I'd talk to your doctor and possibly consider a metal allergy.
  • If they are white gold, they may need redipped. I have white gold earrings that were fine for years, then they started making my ears red and itchy. I seem to have developed a gold allergy, and redipping them helped.
  • Take them off at night and during showers. Use a good quality hand cream at night and after showers, let the cream absorb completely and then put on your ring again.
