You find out babybocker's gender soooooo soon!! I can't wait to hear!
Re: Melko
omg I can't wait! ahhhh.
We've actually decided to turn my "cake and ice cream" birthday get together with DH's family (and my parents) into a gender reveal.
My birthday is the 8th, and everyone is coming over on the 6th for cake and ice cream, since I'll be in Boston with my family on my birthday. We're going to have the ultrasound tech write the sex in an envelope, and then bring it to a baker (I've already ordered the cake). She's going to make the actual cake mix either blue or pink depending on the sex.
When everyone gets there, and we bring out the cake, we're going to explain it to everyone, and tell them that we don't know the sex either. Then, we'll cut into it together, and we'll all be surprised.
At first, I was totally against these type of parties, but I think it's mostly that I don't like it when they're done separately. Everyone is already coming over for cake, and DH's family is seriously all about the sex of the baby. Especially since the boy:girl ratio is currently 4:10 as far as grandkids go. Also, I heard of someone being really disappointed at how anti-climactic the ultrasound was when they found out, and I thought it would up the hype for us a little bit.
I have told my parents, because I know my mother would get upset if she wasn't told about the plan before hand, and "put on the same level" as DH's family. My mother thinks its the best idea in the world.
Our cake will kind of be like this one, but it will be lime green. Also, it will have a larger, 10 inch tier, and a smaller 6 inch tier. I also have all lime green decorations (table cloth, napkins, forks, cups).
...gotta love how an immediate family birthday celebration is easily 30 people...
I am so excited for you, Melko! I like that you're combining it with a special occasion, it'll be really fun to all find out together!
I think we might have the tech write it on a card and maybe open it that night over dinner together or something. But my impatience may win out and I might just beg them to tell me in the u/s!
my blog
Yeah, I'd feel like too much of an AW to do a totally separate party.
I also think it's really dumb to announce at the shower. I'd be pissed if I bought a few pieces of clothing, only to find out that I could have gotten a much cuter outfit. It's actually a lot more common than I thought, too.
This was another option for us as well.
