In it, all the angels wore hoodies, probably to cover the freakish back business when they folded up their wings.
...so the irony of this whole thing (and, yes, it's because I'm a freak) is that I think hoodie = angel.

False symbol? haha. Sorry but the hoodie is partially why he was found to be suspicious enough for Zimmerman to get out and follow him. If it was a black kid in a business shirt with a golf umbrella in the rain, I'm not so sure he would have been followed and gunned down. The behavior of the police department for sure is evidence of racism and poor coverups. His hoodie and the stereotype that is associated with black males wearing them is significant.
It's also a uniting front. It's important.

I guess it's important because it's a symbol *of* Trayvon, but he was killed for being black. And I don't think what he was wearing really would have made a difference to Zimmerman, frankly. I think we have to bencareful because the "oh he shouldn't have been wearing that" apologists come up. And I don't think it matters WHAT he was wearing; he was stalked and murdered for the color of his skin, not his hoodie.

I think it was a combination of the two. Him being black, in a hoodie. If he looked like Will Smith in Hitch (not the jogging scene), I sincerely doubt that he'd have found him to be so suspicious.
"He looks like he's on drugs..." Something tells me he just didn't come to that conclusion based on seeing a bit of his hands and a portion of his face to see that he was black. I also doubt that in a dress shirt and nicer jeans he would have given that 'impression'.
I believe he was murdered because he looked like this man's idea of a black male up to no good. More than just his skin color contributed to that.
ETA: This also coming from someone who is black, and has often been told I don't "look black" enough by more than one person. More than skin tone goes into the idea of blackness.

Even then it wouldn't matter if he were dressed nicely. My H had some woman clutch her dayum purse when he was in an elevator with her. He was dressed in a dress shirt, slacks, and a tie. He's a clean cut guy, so that automatic reaction isn't necessary. But you know hey, black males are just a menace to society.

the hoodie really isn't THE issue, it may have been a factor, just like trayvon's young appearance may have been a factor (i think an older black guy walking with a cane would have appeared less "suspicious"), but let's not kid ourselves...the main reason he was "suspicious" was b/c of his color/race.
it's the same reason why danny glover, et al. couldn't get a cab in new york city. they weren't wearing hoodies. common denominator: black.
