Does anyone steam their clothes?
I just got a steamer, and it's actually harder than I thought it would be.
1. What clothes do you steam vs. iron?
2. Any tips for someone new at steaming?
3. Do you think steaming is gentler on clothes than ironing?
Re: Does anyone steam their clothes?
We just bought a steamer last week. I find it works better on lighter weight clothes - like it wworked great on a cotton pencil skirt I have and on a pair of Gap modern boot trousers, but my husband had a hard time steaming his heavier weight Banana chinos. If your steamer has clips for trousers, use them - holding the material taut helps. DH buys Brooks Brothers no iron shirts but still likes to run a quick iron over them. He had a hard time steaming them but I thiink he just needs to practice more with them. I do think it's gentler because it's just steam and not a hot iron on them but I haven't used it enough to be certain.
I steam my clothes. I just clip trousers to one of the skirt hangers that have the clips on them - I don't put anything at the bottom.
With shirts I usually hold the steamer inside at the bottom for a few seconds and then I do the outside. That seems to help.
ETA: I also start at the bottom with steaming and work my way up. I do use my hand to smooth out wrinkles and I pull on the hem of shirts/dresses so the wrinkles fall out.
I do have one or two things that really don't steam well at all, so those things I save to iron. I'll be honest in saying that I don't personally iron anything because I suck so bad at it, but my H is great at it so he irons them. Gotta love that military training, LOL!
