Recommend your chick lit or other light reading

I like historical fiction, memoirs, travel/food related stories, mysteries... well you get the idea.

However, Im looking for something light or funny (Im particularly thinking of memoirs) to read right now. I have two heavier books that I just cant get into on my ereader but reading is sort of therapeutic to me. I just finished reading "The art of French kissing" and it was cute.

Any suggestions?

Thanks :) I read it last time I left STBX... It was a good escape even if there were parts that annoyed me.

Im reading a lot of books on grief, divorce, forgiveness which I am actually really enjoying, but I want something simple to read before bed.

  • You MUST read any book by Jen Lancaster. She is hysterical! They are chick litty, but also memories, easy to read and I literally laugh out loud. My favorite is Such a Pretty Fat (a hilarious take on her attempts to diet and exercise). But Bitter is the New Black is also awesome.
  • You are welcome! Also, this is a fiction book but is very SO related: Open House by Elizabeth Berg

  • I'm reading Turtle Moon right now by Alice Hoffman, it's not the best book I've ever read but is interesting and a quick read.  Whenever my Dad visits we go to goodwill to look at books and I always pick up some fiction for 50 cents and see what I like.

  • Jennifer Weiner, Jennifer Cruise, Lisa See all are easy chick-lit reads.

If you like raunchy comedy then all of Chelsea Handlers books are funny.

    Happy Reading!

  • I also recently read The Peach Keeper. I highly recommend it!
  • I second Jennifer Wiener-Good in Bed, Little Earthquakes

Also, I love Emily Giffen books (Something Borrowed, Something Blue, Love the One Your With)

  • I like Lauren Weisberger, Sophie Kinsella, and Candace Bushnell for my light, chicky airplane reading.  For books about food/cooking, try Heat (Bill Buford), Cooked (Jeff Henderson--very inspiring story!), The Sharper Your Knife The Less You Cry (Kathleen Flinn), or Ruth Reichel's books--all very good!  I just ordered the Hunger Games (yes, I'm behind the curve on that one) and the Game of Thrones series for my next vacation.  I'm also currently about halfway through the last book in the Eragon series, which is fantasy, if you like that genre.
  • Thanks! Keep 'em coming.

I need to fill up my ebook que at the library :) Not all suggestions have to be light, but I was just looking for something in particular for today to read at lunch. Haha

  • Jane Green- Another Piece of My Heart
  • I highly recommend the Hunger Games series.  Almost finished with the last book and they're great!

For chick lit, I love Sue Margolis.  Her books are hilarious - kind of along the lines of Bridgette Jones' diary humor.  All very quick, easy, entertaining reads.

  • Cruising Attitude by Heather Poole. Funny book about her life as a flight attendant.
  • Ohhh one of my favorite topics.

Anything by Emily Giffin or Sophie Kinsella

The First Husband by Laura Dave (I know this sounds cliche for this board but the title is deceiving)

Love Walked In by Maria Dos Santos (sp?)

I forgot about Jen Weiner and Lauren Weisberger.  Ive read all these too.  Chasing Harry Winston is one of my favorite easy reads :)

  • I like the Queen of Bable series by Meg Cabot

  • I read Home Front by Kristin Hannah a few weeks ago and LOVED it! Here's what it's about,

In her bestselling novels Kristin Hannah has plumbed the depths of friendship, the loyalty of sisters, and the secrets mothers keep. Now, in her most emotionally powerful story yet, she explores the intimate landscape of a troubled marriage with this provocative and timely portrait of a husband and wife, in love and at war.

All marriages have a breaking point. All families have wounds. All wars have a cost. . . .

Like many couples, Michael and Jolene Zarkades have to face the pressures of everyday life---children, careers, bills, chores---even as their twelve-year marriage is falling apart. Then an unexpected deployment sends Jolene deep into harm?s way and leaves defense attorney Michael at home, unaccustomed to being a single parent to their two girls. As a mother, it agonizes Jolene to leave her family, but as a solider she has always understood the true meaning of duty. In her letters home, she paints a rose-colored version of her life on the front lines, shielding her family from the truth. But war will change Jolene in ways that none of them could have foreseen. When tragedy strikes, Michael must face his darkest fear and fight a battle of his own---for everything that matters to his family.

At once a profoundly honest look at modern marriage and a dramatic exploration of the toll war takes on an ordinary American family, Home Front is a story of love, loss, heroism, honor, and ultimately, hope.

I've totally wanted to read that! I'm going to suggest it for my book club...but I'll read it regardless!

    The Nestie formally known as....
  • Pretty much anything by Jennifer Crusie is good chick lit - funny, light, and not condescending like most of that genre.  I'd also recommend Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way, just because it's freaking hilarious.

This book was so depressing and I really didnt like it. I just felt so gyped with the ending!~!

  • Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. There are currently 18 books and the movie inspired by book #1 (One for the Money) is going to be on theatres pretty soon.

ETA: it's super funny, it has mystery (she is a clumsy bounty hunter solving crimes), she is in love with 2 hot guys...
