I wrote
this blog post today about recent phenomena in pop culture that I'm missing/have missed, and I was wondering, what are some others that you all feel like you're out of the loop on?
Re: Blog whoring and a POLL
And I'm thinking of reading the Hunger Games.
I never really understood Twitter. I had an account for a week or two, but it's just status updates all day long and I got bored/sick of it fast.
I agree with you on everything...though I did read The Hunger Games because I was curious as to why there was so much hype about it. I am still on the fence about seeing the movies, and I certainly will not in theatres.
Out of the loop on:
Text Speak. I don't get it, and the day that I heard someone say OMG and JK in a sentence, I cringed. My dad uses it, and I still have to look up some of the things he types...
The 3-D craze. It makes me nauseous to watch it, and I do not feel like it adds anything to most movies. And it kind of saddens me that they are remaking so many movies into using it.
I hate all singing/dancing competition shows. I don't get any premium channels, so I have never seen Game of Thrones. Love Hunger Games, and have to admit I have read all of the Twilight books and seen all of the movies. I have a hard time keeping up with Facebook, I have no patience for Twitter.
But I am obsessed with Mad Men and Downton Abbey.
You really do have to watch Mad Men from the beginning. I don't normally go for drama, but it's really well done.
I wasn't sure about Downton Abbey, but I gave it a shot. I ended up watching all of the first season on Netflix in about 2 days. There's something about it that is just different from a lot of other shows.
This. Plus 3-D gives me migraines.
This + The Voice, I'm a sucker for those.
Idol got me from the get go when the first season premiered right after 24, which was my college roommate and my favorite show EVER at the time. When a little Texas chick won the first season and made it big in the charts, I took it seriously and kept watching. I am not "hooked" on it where I have to watch it or I get upset, but I lightly keep up when I can. I haven't watched all the episodes this season but I tune in if there's nothing else going on.
I watched all of Mad Men on netflix when I was working from home and I really liked it. I also watch American Idol.
I'm clueless about everything else you mentioned though.
I usually feel most out of the loop with music though. I listen mainly to classic rock radio, so I don't hear new songs unless they somehow make it on to TV.
I'm also lost when it comes to Lord of The Rings or Harry Potter, and poor MME's husband did a great drawing of Gandolf for me on Draw Something and I could not figure it out! I knew it was the wizard but since I haven't gotten through the movies I didn't know his name. I could almost feel the disappiontment at the other end of the game when they saw I FAILED! haha
And then I cheated and told NearMiss to tell me what her LOTR drawing was, so we could get the points. If anyone else is playing me, don't draw any of those characters to me, OK?
LOL!!!
I am on agreement on everything. . .almost
Peer pressure took me to watch "The Hunger Games". It was good. I also saw a snippet of Mad Men, the dresses are lovely.
I figure fb is enough. . . no twitter required thank you.
I'm with you on American Idol. I like some of the singers the show has produced but I don't ever watch the show.
I definitely don't get Game of Thrones. MH watches it and it's just awful. So graphic, I tried to watch a couple episodes with him and it actually stressed me out a bit. Ick.
I will admit to having a Twitter account but it's only because I'm celebrity obsessed and I follow my favorites. I think I've tweeted like 4 things and it's usually to try and win something.
Something I don't get is Toms shoes. They're not cute to me and feel like there has to be a better way to help kids in Africa or wherever the free pair goes to.
I do love Twilight and The Hunger Games though. HG more, reading that was like crack.
Thank you. They're ugly shoes. And plus also, instead of shoes send them FOOD. oy.
