Sore inner thigh and HM on Saturday- advice please!

My first HM is Saturday.  Been training since the first of the year, putting in 23/24 miles per week except on cutback weeks.  My inner thigh is sore.  It's not painful but definitely quite sore.  Today the outside of my knee hurt the first mile, and it's definitely the first time my knee has ever hurt.

Two questions- I've been foam rolling.  Any other inner thigh stretching/ suggestions?

Should I alter my running this week?  I have a 4.6 mile planned tomorrow and Thursday, then rest on Friday, then HM on Saturday.  We normally run 4.6 Tuesday through Thursday, then a LR on the weekend, so this week is essentially the same.  I did taper and ran 7 miles on Sunday instead of 11 or 12.

Re: Sore inner thigh and HM on Saturday- advice please!

  • I would take tomorrow and Thursday off, a little rest before the HM will do you good.  Resting is hard, but will help you feel better for the race.
  • I would get a massage. A few days before my last half, my legs became so sore that I could hardly walk. I got a massage the morning before, rested, and had a great run. I also got another massage that day after, I still felt great. I'm super tight right now, despite hours of yoga weekly and foam rolling regularly, so I just went and got a massage again tonight. Amazing.

Also, I know this sounds weird, but if you have a rolling pin, use can use that to roll out your inner thighs, where it's a little harder to use the foam roller,

  • Sauna. It loosens up the muscles and lets them relax. When I'm suuuper sore, 20minutes in the sauna often helps me... If you have that as an option
