Did anyone watch Fashion Star last night?

What did you think? I loved Orly's dresses, I want the navy with the bright yellow one!

Re: Did anyone watch Fashion Star last night?

  • Ha I tried! I fell asleep though...who got the boot?
  • Ditto - loved Orly's dresses with the peek of color in the pockets.

  • Liked them, but didn't love them. So far I haven't seen anything that I absolutely have to have.  And those horrible mens shorts last night - ick, DH would kill me if I brought those home.

  • Orly's dresses were amazing.  They were the first thing I have seen on there that I thought I had to have.  I went to Saks site to check it out and wtf?  The dress looks nothing like it, there is only one color option, which isn't even one from the show, it's a burnt orange.  There are no pockets.  And it's freaking $300.

What a joke.  Never even bothering to watch the show again.

Sak's has done that with everything that they've bought and it's all $300+ per piece.  Macy's has had options, but made changes and kept pricing around Macy's average.  H&M does a couple of options with slight tweaks and has the most reasonable stuff.  All the pieces sell out almost immediately though.  I'm not liking the way it's going down.  The orders seem so limited with how much buying power the stores have in reality.  I'm hoping things get rereleased after the full collections come out at the end and each store gets a collection of their own.  That's the only way I'd consider watching after this season.
  • I figure the prices are automatically going to be higher at Saks, vs. Macy's, and obviously H&M is going to be cheap. So I would think most designs going to H&M would need to be changed, and the ones going to higher end stores wouldn't need as many changes. But changing the color is annoying, it's not even the same design anymore as it was on the show.

I also wish they disclosed what the quantity of items was rather than the dollar amount. I know the quantity is limited, but why so limited that it consistently sells out in hours? Hopefully they'll re-release some designs at the end.

I get that about Sak's but beading the skirt from week one to get it up to a $325 price tag was a little much.  I've seen a lot of pieces at Sak's from other designers for under $300 at my local store and not a single piece has been under that mark.  That skirt could have been a cute print and $150-$200 easily.  The H&M designs have had the fewest changes though, with the exception of the leather dress that wasn't done in leather for them.  That's what makes it crazy for me.

They really need to show quantities.  Some pieces have sold out online in a lot less than an hour after they've aired.  Sak's and Macy's always go the fastest with they markup they both have.

Don't get me wrong, I expected the dress to be at least $300, but at that price, it most definitely needs the pockets, which made the dress. As they are selling it right now, it's a standard dress you can find anywhere, which is not on color trend for summer, which they harped on ad naseum last night.

I totally agree.  I expect that from a dress, but a skirt for $325?  That's a lot for a single piece that has no other pieces to go with it in a collection at that point, even if it is a "two-fer."  Taking things like pockets away and changing to colors that are not on trend really irks me too and why I think it may not be around for long.  They advertise it as buying that piece after the show and it's not that piece if they change it.
  • I was watching off and on last night.  I liked Orly's dresses but it's too form fitting for me.  Plus, Saks charges insane amounts of money for the picked items.  I think my favorite was Orly's zipper skirt but that $300+ price was ridiculous.

My favorite look overall last night was the guy who did the men's summer shorts with different patterns.  It kind of looked like swimming trunks, but it was a different and creative look.  The rest looks like stuff already in the stores.

I did like the tuxedo pants for women too, but front pleats on a cropped pant for me is not a good look.  Plus, I'm sure Saks is charging $425 for a pair.

They're a steal at $225 a pair, especially since they are plaid poly/rayon in gray and blue!  ::rolls eyes::  They're also "imported" for that price tag.  Every piece on Sak's is a rayon/poly blend including the jersey dress.  I expect this for Macy's and H&M, but to me it brings the Sak's brand down in my eyes.

I missed a lot of last nights episode, but found them online.  Judging by what gets put out and how fast, there is some serious scripting and changes happening before it airs.

  • Ha, so true FCG!  Really, my favorite part was LMFAO.
