NYC girls....

Hey,

Have any of you been on one of the boat cruises around the city? Groupon is having a great deal on it so I bought one as an anniversary gift. I'm curious about the dress code for this type of thing. Well more for my DH. Is this a jeans and button down kind of thing or dress pants? Any insight would be great, thanks

Re: NYC girls....

  • Pretty much everything here is jeans and dress shirt anymore.

    Purple Stride NYC (5k) 4/21/12
Run to Combat Autism (5k) 4/29/12

  • I have, with work (which was an interesting half lawyers in suits/half regular people mix), but I also walk by Pier 40 a lot when people are in line for the cruises.  If you're on one of those, people seem to get pretty decked out.  I'd say along the lines of what you'd wear to a club in Vegas or Atlantic City?  It is kind of a seductive dress kind of crowd.

I'd imagine the experience may be a little different on other boats.

  • I think it depends on the specific cruise line. I took one of those years ago and it was the dressy type. But like I said, it was years ago. It doesn't hurt to wear something dressier especially since it's an anniversary celebration. That's what I would do but totally a personal opinion. I've been known to over-dress :)
  • The ones I was on were on sailboats, And very casual. Definitely find out about the boat.

  • I went on one on a sailboat for a bachelorette party - champagne, snacks, etc. It was early September, so we all wore capris, tanks, and sandals. I did the Spirit Cruise line when I was in like, 5th grade. Because I was in 5th grade, I did get "dressed up", but if I were to go again, I'd probably do nice jeans/slacks and a blouse. However, since it's an anniversary celebration, I might get a bit more dressed up - and then maybe hit up a few nice bars after the ride?

  • Here's the website, if you scroll over you can see pics of the boats. I'm not so much concerned about me, I'll wear a dress for any occassion, it's DH who isn't much of a dresser so I'm trying to work on it for him.
