I'll start at the beginning - we left for Cville at 2 am on Friday morning and drove through the night. We got there at 9:30 and ate at a diner and I changed for my interview in the bathroom of the diner lol. My interview went really really really well and if I had to put money on it, I would bet I have a job between Apr - Jun! Squeeeee! It went much longer than I had budgeted (1.5 hrs!) so we were rushed to get to the hotel to meet our parents to start the house hunt.
Sooooo, after having you ladies weigh in on our top choices - they all sucked!! The first day we caravanned from house to house with both sets of parents (yes, we wanted them to be involved in this choice) and saw 7 really terrible old homes. They were cute but the photos had been so doctored. One seriously had a broken window that was conveniently not broken in the photos they posted - oh, and holes in the floor! Photoshopping house photos should be illegal - seriously! I feel like we wasted an entire day!
That night, after being up since 2 AM already, our realtor worked really hard to send us a lot more house options. We started looking at new build houses and really saw the gamut from new build in an old neighborhood, houses that had been built in the 1990s in a spaced out subdivision, town homes, and new build subdivisions where the houses may as well have been town homes because there was zero yard! We fell in love with the first house that we saw that morning and after talking about it for a few days, we are going to put together an offer!
Here is the link to pictures: http://www.charlottesvillerealestatesolutions.com/media.aspx?mls=490382 It is on .15 acre with a relatively flat back yard. There is one parking space in the front and the yard backs up to another road, so we could add parking in the back if we wanted. It is 1558 SF finished in the main part of the house and then there is a full walk out basement that is also 1558 SF. It is already framed in the basement so we just have to do wiring, dry wall, and all of the finishings. My dad and uncles have all built their houses, so for us its not a huge expense to finish it, just the cost of materials since the labor will be free. It has a master suite, a guest suite, one small bedroom, 2 bathrooms, living room, dining room, area that we are going to make into a built-in reading nook (by the kitchen), eat-in tricked out kitchen, and a laundry room. It also has a screen porch and a 2 story deck on the back. The basement is framed for an additional bathroom, 2 bedrooms, we're going to build in an office space, a family room, and a mud-room. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's in a very cute old neighborhood, so no HOA fees, etc.
Anyway - just wanted to update you all! I'm so very happy with all of the exciting things that should be coming up very soon in our lives!
Re: We found a house!! (and a rant)
Wow!! I LOVE that house! It looks so spacious, especially with the added outdoor deck space! I hope you get it!
That sucks that the houses were so crappy, but at least the trip was productive in the end.
Good luck on the job, too! That's a lot of exciting stuff to look forward to!

I LOVE IT!! And I can't believe those pictures were Photoshopped - that's crap! Is this one in the city or country?
And I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your job - that's so exciting!! I'm sure you've said this before, but I don't remember - does your H have to find a new job as well?

This one is in the city, it would be 2 miles to downtown, 2.5 to my potential office. It sits in a really cute older neighborhood with lots of cottage looking houses and it looks like everyone takes good care of their yards. We noticed lots of fancy cars driving by when we were there lol. My H can transfer his job to Richmond, which would be the same commute he does now, and then we could try to find him a new job in Cville. If he transfers it though that means we don't lose our health insurance, etc. while we move.
awesome! Doesn't it feel amazing to feel like things are falling into place? :-)
It sucks that those houses were too good to be true, but if they weren't, you might have missed finding the one you loved!
Congrats, and good luck on the job, and on putting in an offer!

We're still drawing up paperwork for the offer, so hopefully we'll have a counter by tomorrow evening or Thursday morning. Our closing date, if they accept our offer, is May 2. I don't know when I'll hear about the job, they haven't really ever posted an opening, so as they get the go-ahead to start jobs they will need to bring someone on. Hopefully it's around May-June.
