Do you go on Baby Names just to torture yourself? I want to bang my head against the wall. Spelling means something and you can't make up your own pronounciations!!!!!!!!!
Re: Mags
LMAO
It is hysterical over there! Where the F do people come up with this crap?
I almost posted a "You all fooking suck" to a thread on FB started by a PG someone who I did gymnastics with 12 years ago, and it was all over this:
She starts out asking FB, "If the baby is a girl, do you like Ellie or Lila better?"
I think to myself, oh, those names aren't too bad. Some innocuous commenters choose one or the other. Then these people start up:
DumbGirl: "Well, Lila might sound like Lilo and Ellie sounds like Kelly. So I'm gonna have to say Ellie.
"
AnnoyingGirl: "Lila..but maybe Lyla?!?"
Original Poster: "AnnoyingGirl, I was thinking the same thing ...I love the y in it so much better...makes it more feminine ...plus y' s are fun to write
"
StupidGirl: "Thats why we put a y in Ayden lol looks better when you write it
and I LOVE Lyla! Wasn't that the moms name in August Rush?"
AsinineGirl: "I wouldn't spell lyla lila. Lila is what we call Lillian and everyone pronounces it lila so she would always get Called the wrong name. I live lyla and wanted Lillian's nickname to be lyla becuase i dont like the lilly nickname but everyone said it didn't go haha. Lyla and Ellie are both big right now
"
AsinineGirl: "What I meant is Lila is pronounced how it is spelt lill a. So if you named her lyla and spelt it Lila she would be called lill a. Sometimes misspellings are cute but it ruins some names and who wants to constantly correct people on their name. That's just my 2 cents as so
Rome who once taught bunches of children."
I couldn't hold back any longer.
Me: "If someone called Lila lil a, I would assume they weren't smart enough to hang out with my kid. Seriously. The name Lila is lovely and unique enough when spelled correctly, you don't have to bastardize the spelling to get people to like it."
Fin.
I applaud you
Oh she replied! Motz, I'm so sorry for post-jacking you, but this girl is making me crazy!
AsinineGirl: "By no means was I trying to offend anyone but to say someone who pronounces Lila lil a Is stupid is going a little far. Look at how lily is spealt. It's not pronounce lie lee. Lots of people say Lila as lil a."
AsinineGirl: "I'm also not saying lila can't be pronounced lyla it can just be mispronounced a lot is all. Everyone says it different."
Me: ""Lila" and "Lily" subscribe to two different vowel rules - "Lila", ending in "a", requires the "i" be a long vowel, whereas "Lily", ending in "y", allows for a short vowel. Basic phonics."
And with that, I have to be done. You can't argue with stupid.
Back away, BBE. Back away.
This is not worth the rise in blood pressure. (and you know I agree with you)
