I've gotten a lot of clothes from Loft and Limited (casual clothes, cardis, tops) b/w last year and this year. I feel like they just don't wear well after time. I wash all my clothes on delicate cycle, use Woolite Dark (for dark clothes), and hang dry just about everything.
I also rarely iron my items since I hang dry them and they really don't get wrinkled much.
I feel like all my cardigans looks so worn, my tops look faded and beat up- and I have a lot of clothes (practically my own walk-in closet), so it's not like I repeatedly wear my clothes since I have enough to rotate for awhile.
Has anyone else experienced this? It's making me wonder if I should just start buying more clothes from BR and J. Crew...
Re: Loft/Limited- Underwhelmed by quality lately...
I've noticed a quality decline overall, but not really at specific stores. I can get one shirt at Limited that lasts forever, and then another that looks faded or a seam comes loose after three wears. Same goes for all the other stores - JCrew, Loft, Gap, BR, etc.
My main complaint is that you can't just "pay more for quality" anymore. Just because it costs more doesn't mean it will hold up. You just never know - it's like a gamble every time you buy anything.
Totally get you, esp with cardigans, I feel like everything starts pilling after a few wears, even my more expensive lands end canvas ones.
I'm at the point now where I pretty much exclusively shop sales, esp at places like Loft. I used to be ok with a full price piece here and there, but I feel like I'm not getting my money's worth.

This! It's so frustrating because I wear a cardigan at some point nearly every day. I just donated a bunch of clothes and there were so many cardis from just LAST YEAR that it broke my heart. They were still in okay shape but had lost their original shape. I bought a bunch of ON ones on sale and figured I'll just have to replace them each season. I'd rather spend $$70 for a couple of cardigans than $50+ on one that'll probably also lose its shape.
I've noticed quality going down everywhere. The materials are poor and they are poorly made in most stores. I also take a lot of care in washing and drying my clothes, especially sweaters and cardigans. I found these hangers by Tide that help them keep their shape, but now I can't seem to find more. They keep the shoulders in the proper places and stretching to a minimum.
I've tried shopping better brands and stores, which helps a little, but you can only do so much when you have so much to work with in the stores. I try to stay away from cheap fabrics and find myself inspecting the construction heavily now.
I rarely buy tops from BR anymore. I feel like every time I do, 1 wash and there's a hole in it, or seams coming undone....it seriously pisses me off.
I feel like the general quality of clothes are going downhill. Even nicer brands. My original 7FAM jeans lasted me 10 years. The recent ones I've bought have holes in the knees w/in 1.5-2 years
My DH has taken to buying things a size bigger b/c of the shrinkage, but I would rather him get more than 1 wear out of things.

yep, DH does the same now too.
Yep, this.
Cardigans are not holding up for me anymore, and anything that is mostly cotton it seems. I have not had a problem with Limited tops so far. Loft cardigans are the worst, they shrink up and the color looks bad after only a couple washings it seems.
And my other gripe about Loft is, they should let you know if something is sheer/see though. I bought a short sleeve sweater to wear to work, bought it in 3 colors, only to find out you can see through it! I can't wear it to work like that! And it's one of those that doesn't make sense to wear a cami under it. It's light weight for summer, I don't want to wear layers when it's hot!!
Oh, and I'm wearing a pair of pants from Macy's today, there was a thread that I apparantly stepped on this morning, and it took out the entire hem!
I had to use a couple of staples to hold it up for today, how's that for a F&B fix! LOL
