I have had many requests for Linkedin, but could someone expand more on it. I heard it's a great networking tool.

Linkedin is literally a facebook community, but around professional development. You can enter your work history - as it's pretty much an online resume. It does provide great tools such as, downloading a resume directly from the site, job searching, updates around co-workers/Company movement. You can get recommendations that post onto the site from previous/current peers.
A large amount of recruiters use Linkedin as a professional tool for finding candidates for jobs. I know I get calls/messages through Linkedin specifally about upcoming positions, or if I have any recommendations for someone who would fit the job in my area. Also is a large amount of postings of relevant positions to your field/career. You can follow your company if they have a site & see how many folks from your company are on Linkedin.
It really is a great tool if you keep it updated! Great to see how people you work with advance in their careers over the years!

I'd recommend connecting with recruiters that specialize in your area of work even if you're not looking for a job. I've had many contact me through LinkedIn, it's actually why I have an interview lined up next week
Ditto on what others have said about yur profile and recruiting.
I've also used it a lot for my job. There are tons of articles and things posted all the time. I also joined a professional group in my field where I am able to post questions and it has been incredibly helpful.
