And Trayvon didn't have injuries to his hands either

Zimmerman's story just falls apart more and more:

http://www.hlntv.com/article/2012/03/28/funeral-director-saw-no-signs-fight-trayvons-hands

The funeral director who prepared Trayvon Martin?s body for burial told HLN?s Nancy Grace Wednesday that he did not see any cuts or bruises on the teen?s hands that would have been indicative of a struggle with George Zimmerman, the man who shot and killed the Florida teen.

Richard Kurtz of Roy Mizell and Kurtz Funeral Home in Fort Lauderdale said there appeared to be a gunshot wound in Martin?s upper chest area, but he received the body after the autopsy was completed so it was difficult to tell whether he had other injuries. He also could not determine the bullet?s entry or exit point.

?As for his hands and knuckles, I didn?t see any evidence he had been fighting anybody,? Kurtz said.

Citing police sources, the Orlando Sentinel reported that Zimmerman told investigators Martin punched him and slammed his head into the ground repeatedly before he fired the shot that killed the unarmed 17-year-old. He claimed he shot Martin in self-defense, and he has not been charged in the case at this point.

While Kurtz is not a forensics expert, the funeral director said he has handled the bodies of many homicide victims in his career. This case in particular affected him as he learned more about what happened to Martin and how the case was handled.

?I think the police investigation was the most unprofessional one I've ever seen in my lifetime,? Kurtz said.

  • "He also could not determine the bullet?s entry or exit point"

    Huh?

Ninja edit: Nevermind. I first thought he couldn't locate either point, not that he was confusing the two.

  • Wait, they didn't autopsy?  Maybe I watch too much CSI, but wouldn't they want to know the trajectory of the bullet to corroborate anything that Zimmerman is saying?  Shooting from the ground after being beaten is going to look quite different than standing face to face.

I'm surprised about the funeral home choice.  Fort Lauderdale is fairly far from Sanford (like, hours away).  It is in a predominately black neighborhood, though, with a high rate of violent crime.  I have no doubt they're seen victims of violence.

ETA, nevermind.  I missed that there was an autopsy in my confusion over Fort Laud.

  • And another thing about him and the police surveillance video: even if, by some miracle, his "broken nose" didn't bleed, if Trayvon had been close enough to Zimmerman to be inflicting damage when GZ shot him, wouldn't he also have at least some of Trayvon's blood on him? Maybe I watch too much SVU, but if they were in hand to hand combat when Trayvon was shot, it just doesn't wash for GZ to have been so clean?

I think he lived closer to Ft Lauderdale (Miami?). He was only in Sanford to visit his dad.

Also, if Trayvon was on top of Zimmerman when he shot him, wouldn't some blood have gotten on him? Unless he wasn't on top of him...

I did not know that.  Wikipedia confirms you are correct.  He lived in Miami Gardens which is on the northern border of Miami-Dade, near the airport.  So, then Ft Laud doesn't seem all that surprising, although it's still probably 20 miles away.

  • Based on the police report, I think we're going to find out that Trayvon was calling for help while Zimmerman was chasing him around the neighborhood and that Zimmerman ultimately shot Trayvon in the back which is why he was found face down.

Yeah, based on this new information, coupled with the report of the girlfriend who he was on the phone with, I would not be surprised if this is correct. I think Zimmerman may have followed him, Trayvon finally got scared enough and asked Zimmerman why he was following him (which GF heard on the phone), Zimmerman proceeds to pull the gun out (in "self defense"), Trayvon starts to run away, and he shoots.
