how do I jump start my weight loss? Help!!
Trying to lose weight before my wedding, relatively active (although with warmer weather coming trying to do more) and trying to eat better but I can't seem to lose any significant weight. I'm 5'10" and 160-165 lbs is where it keeps fluctuating between! HELP!!
Re: how do I jump start my weight loss? Help!!
I'm the same height and same weight.
The best way to jump start weight loss is to eat right and exercise.
DD - February 2011
If you are serious about doing it, this will help.
DROP all flour products, even pasta--drop rice, even brown rice--drop all sugar--drop all artificial sweetners--limit fruit to 2-3 per day, 1 banana a week max
INCREASE protein and eggs and egg whites--increase fresh vegetables, raw and steamed or sauteed--water--increase whole grains like barley, quinoa--increased cooked dried beans to at least once a day
I don't think you need to be as extreme as the pp in order to lose weight. But for me I know putting myself on a restrictive diet like that would not be sustainable and would therefore likely fail in the long run.
I would recommend tracking what you eat to get a more accurate idea of what you are eating (ie how many calories, how much protein, how many carbs, etc.). I did this with SparkPeople and it helped me lose 20lbs. But other people really like Livestrong or DailyPlate.
I thought I ate fairly healthy - and I did. I just ate too much. It was quite eye opening once I started tracking things. I did that for a few months until I had a better idea of serving size and what I should be eating. So far it's been almost 2 years and I haven't put any of the weight back on.
LOL. My H would've left me high and dry if I ate beans once a day. And I prefer bananas in my green smoothies, which I and my 30+lb loss (maintained for three+ years) enjoy at least 3x a week.
OP, track what you're eating and how you're exercising. Come back with a sample day's menu if you want more specific feedback.

That makes my bladder hurt.
Yeah, 128 ounces a day is a lot!
Simple - eat right and exercise.
Yet, so NOT simple at the same time, I know that as well as anybody. But that is honestly what it comes down to.
This. No need to go all restrictive. Start tracking your calories, what you're eating and how much of it, and exercise. I've lost 55 lbs doing that. For sustainable weight loss that's all it really comes down to. How much you eat and how much you move your butt.

All so true - but she asked for a jump start, not maintenance...
I've tracked food for years and it's really done me a lot of good. However, last year, I did a program with a trainer I know over a period of 8 weeks. It was a couple of small changes per week and it was amazing how well it worked.
The whole thing in a nutshell ...First, track your food. Include 2 fruits, 1 yogurt, and whole grains in your diet. Each day eat 3 veggies of a cup or more - cannot be iceburg lettuce and must be as close to fresh as possible (in other words, not cooked to mush). (This is in addition to any other food, BTW) Exercise 3-5 days/week for 30 min. and do simple strength training 2x/week.
There was a little more such as experimenting with beans and fish as protein sources, but that's pretty much it. It was eye opening for me and not hard at all. All those fruits and veggies actually keep me pretty full I never get hungry when I stick to the above. I always thought I ate enough fruits and veggies, but my portions were way too small and my portions of everything else was too big.
But tracking/counting calories is just as useful for losing weight as it is for maintaining weight. Probably moreso. I'm just more of the mindset that there isn't a need to "jump start" things. Successful long term weight loss is a very gradual thing.
