carpets...
How do you get the bumps out of the carpet from where your bed posts used to be?
Is this necessary to flatten out when moving out of a rental?

Have you vacuumed yet? Sometimes the suction of the vacuum will lift the fibers of the carpet up.
I would say no, it's not necessary. None of our landlords has ever mentioned flattened carpet.
