I worked with my personal trainer on Tuesday and we lifted pretty heavy. He seriously kicked my butt. I have been working with him for a few months now and I am usually sore for a few days after the workout which is totally normal and expected. Yesterday and today I am so sore I can barely walk. My right calf is so much worse than my left. I have never experienced pain like this before. I am stretching, taking motrin but the pain is so bad that I barely slept last night. I have my feet and legs elevated right now just to try to bring my toes to my nose hurts like hell. I am trying to keep moving but good lord this hurt! I can barely even touch my calf without pain and I can feel muscles that are crazy tight. Any suggestions to make this soreness go away to where its tolerable?
Re: Muscle soreness
Do some light exercise like a 15-30 minute walk around the block or yoga if you regularly do yoga (if not, it can make you more sore).
To stretch your calves, find a step to stand on. Stand on the ball of your foot and sink down into your heel as far as you can comfortably go. Make sure you have something to hold onto like a hand rail or a door frame for balance. This is what we used to do after riding horses, and it works really well. Hold for 20-30 seconds, rest for a minute, and repeat a few times.

Try some light cardio to raise your heart rate and warm up your muscles a bit and then stretch them out. I find I can get deeper stretches when my muscles are warmed up than just stretching from inactivity.
I sit at a desk all day for work, so when my muscles are sore, I try to get up and walk at least once an hour to keep the blood flowing to my legs. It sucks at first, but it helps them recover quicker.
