United Airlines or British Airways

Booking a flight to the UK...which airline would you prefer for overseas? More comfortable, better amenities?

Prices are slightly better for UA, but not so much that its the main factor.

Thanks!!

Re: United Airlines or British Airways

  • I prefer BA.

  • I also prefer BA but I will usually choose schedule over carrier.

  • BA seems a bit better...does anyone know at what point I can select my seat?

  • I really like BA. I would only choose United if you have Star Alliance gold benefits.

You can typically choose your seat at check-in, which is available 24 hours before the first leg of your flight. I've actually set an alarm in the past to remind me to check in as soon as possible when we wanted the best possible seat choices.

  • I don't know UA so I can't compare the two but I've always flown BA without any issues, ever. You can check in online starting 24 hours before your flight.
  • After seeing that UA doesn't seem to have personal tv's for this particular plane, I went with BA. I flew them to Barcelona a few months ago, and it was a nice plane.

    Thanks!

  • Love BA, except for the fact that you can't get your seat assigned until 24 hours before.  I was flying Seattle to London with DH and our 11 month old baby, and they put us in different rows, and it was a PITA to switch with passengers on the actual plane, because the stewardesses wouldn't assign us different seats.  I was pissed because I bought my tickets about 6 months in advance and have never had any issues before, or since, with ANY other airline, about picking seats together.  Ryan Air had better customer service, honestly.  But we were flying in the middle of a BA strike, so I think that was why we had such shiitty service.

  • I would choose UA but only because I have status with them. For a casual traveler I've heard better things about BA.

However, UA isn't BAD by any means and if the schedule and price are better I'd def. choose them.

  • You must go for the British Airways for sure.
