Puerto Rico in late November

We are thinking of going to Puerto Rico the week after Thanksgiving. It will be my husband, myself and my 3 1/2 year son. Can you recommend great hotels? I have been looking at El Conquistador and La Concha. Any must dos? We love the beach and relaxing but like to explore as well.

  • If you're going with a young child, you might want to consider renting a condo. We are going in May and we're renting a condo in Luquillo. It's close to everything and on the beach. We like the  freedom of being able to have snacks and breakfast in our condo before exploring!

  • Like pp said, Luquillo is lovely. There is one huge complex of condos there, but I forget the name (also, there are probably many others). The one I am thinking of has nice beach access and a big pool. The great thing about Luquillo is that it's really close to El Yunque (the rain forest), too, which I imagine would be fun with a small child. I keep wanting to take DD, but life has pulled us in other directions and to other destinations so far. PR is on our short list of places to take DD in the next couple of years.

I've never stayed in the Caribe Hilton, but the location seems good. One side on the beach, one side in Old San Juan.

We stayed at the Caribe Hilton in mid-November a few years ago and loved it. Great location with easy access downtown and to the airport and cruise pier.

  • You should go for hotel Hacienda Tamarindo.
  • We went to PR last Nov (Nov 29-Dec 4th pre cruise) and stayed at the Intercontinental.  It was a great hotel and we won it on Priceline for $100 per night.

We really enjoyed the bio bay kayaking, but obv you may not be able to do that with small kids :)

We REALLY wanted to go to Culebra - it looked like such an awesome beach, but never made it there.

Luquillo Beach was really pretty white sand and clear water.  The beach by our hotel was filled with sea weed (although they said it wasn't common for that time of year)

Other than that, we loved OSJ and wished we had more time for the forts, we kinda had to rush through.

  • Playa Azul is the condo complex in Luquillo. We are renting there!

We're also staying in Hacienda Tamarindo in Vieques.
