Thanks for all of the vibez for Duke the other day. His test results came back yesterday. The good news is that all of his lumps and bumps came back benign. The bad news is that the ball & socket joint on the left side of his jaw is malformed, and he has arthritis there, so that's what's causing his jaw issues. There is a surgery to correct it, but it's pretty invasive, and they only recommend it as a last resort. So, we are just going to try and manage his pain with anti-inflammatories, and he has to start taking some supplements for the arthritis, to try and prevent it from getting worse. We can keep doing that as long as it doesn't impact his quality of life. Not great, but I'm pretty relieved that we won't have to deal with jaw surgery. That just sounds disastrous for a dog.

Poor Duke. Glad there's no cancer, but sorry he has to deal with jaw pain. Sorry to sound like an earthy crunchy broken record on this, but acupuncture might be able to help, especially with the arthritis. I don't know if he works at the midtown location as well (we go to the Stone Mountain office), but we love Dr. Kevin at Loving Touch - all of their doctors are good, though.
ETA - If you want to talk supplements offline, just let me know. I can tell you what I've got my old guy on. He's still going strong at 16, so they must be doing something.
Boston has some arthritis and these chews have helped him immensely! We give him 2 a day even though it says he should get 6 for his weight. He was like a new dog within days of starting these. Might be worth checking into for Duke!
