I have a serious problem

I have been missing having an affectionate dog at home - our lab is real independent and isn't really into much affection. I stopped by our local SPCA this week JUST to visit with the pups there and play with the puppies they had and I caught puppy fever.

Getting another dog is not what we need right now, life is finally getting back to normal and is really relaxed at home, but man I have such an itch to bring someone home. FI told me yesterday that he keeps thinking one day I'm just going to show up at home with a dog. I told him that I'd at least discuss it with him first - haha. Although I almost had a puppy in my arms on the way home the other day.

Embarrassed

This is one of the puppies I played with - look at that scraggily face!

  • you are stronger than I.  I would've had that pup home already.  but I have a total weakness for doggies
  • Haha, DL!!! I know how you feel! I say listen to the advice that you gave me yesterday Smile

If you don't want the commitment right now, what about volunteering on a weekly basis so you can get your "fix"?

This. I'm a total sucker. Actually, where is that dog? I may just go get him this weekend.

Do you think maybe you could volunteer to quell some of your desire to take a puppy home or would that make it worse?

  • Haha dmarie - I was thinking about this when I read your post yesterday. I have thought about volunteering, that is something that helped me a lot when I lost my last dog. I always had an easy time playing with pup and going home afterwards. I don't know if this time it would be so easy. I am definitely considering that though, I think it'd be a much better option right now.

  • 8days - they actually put that dog on FB and the news yesterday so I bet he won't last at the shelter through the morning. His sister was awesome though, when I played with her I was immediately in love. I had to force myself to walk away and drive home. She's already been adopted!

  • If I'd never met DH or for any reason permanently forgone children, I'd be a crazy dog lady so I can off no assistance in this area.
  • That puppy is ridiculously adorable.  You broke the first rule of going to the animal shelter.  Don't go unless you can bring someone home.  This reminds me of when we found an adorable puppy in our yard.  We reported finding her to the shelter.  She didn't have a collar.  We kept her for about a day but she didn't fit in with our other dogs.  We took her to the no kill shelter.  My husband asked if I wanted to look at the other dogs while we were there.  I said no way.  It was hard enough leaving the one we found.  I knew I would want to take everyone home.  I waited in the car while my husband looked at other dogs.  LOL!
  • You should foster. That way you can get your fix, get some lovin, and help out a few pups on the way.
  • How do you think we got Scooby? LOL We went to look "just for fun", and then went back to play with him the next day and the next day and brought him home on the third trip there.  We didn't go there intending to bring him or any dogs home.  We just couldn't leave him another day with his puppy dog eyes pleading with us to take him home.

I understand how you feel though...dogs find that special place in your heart that you didn't know you had until they worm their way in there!

Yes I also think this is a great idea Motzie! FI and I discussed this yesterday. I think we'll be looking into it.

Now THIS is an excellent idea.

  • Please foster! I love seeing the TIP foster-er pictures on here.  And you'd get some serious cuddle time with lots of pups. Awww.
    Look with your special eyes.
